‘Review govt pay-scale system’ Teachers take stand on increment bill KUWAIT CITY, July 12, (KUNA): It is imperative that the Civil Service Commission conclude in time its review of the government pay scale and salary allowances system, in a manner that ensures equality and justice for all government employees, said Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ali Al-Rashed, in a visit he paid to the commission earlier on Tuesday.
He urged officials at the civil commission to do their utmost to meet the demands of government ministries and agencies for qualified native employees, in accordance with the commission’s plans for seeking employment for thousands of job-hunting young Kuwaitis.
Having toured the various departments in the commission’s building and gotten a first-hand look at the way work was being carried out regularly by the staff, Al-Rashed praised the latter and the commission for a job well done since the inception of the civil commission in 1960.
Meanwhile, the Kuwait Teachers Association has vehemently denied rumors that it intends to coordinate with some lawmakers to hold a protest on Oct 27 if the Parliament fails to pass the teachers salary increment bill in its Oct 25 session, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
In a recent press statement, the association said it hopes the National Assembly will approve the bill in the next legislative round, considering 42 lawmakers support it. The association believes these lawmakers have no intention to change their stand on the issue due to their strong conviction, sense of responsibility and commitment to uphold trust.
The association also rejected the increment approved by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the bonus proposed by Education and Higher Education Minister Ahmad Al-Mulaifi, because these are not in line with the group’s objectives and the educational philosophy. It also appealed to the minister to ensure that 39,000 teachers are treated fairly, considering they play a crucial role in molding the minds of the youth.
