Bhasin, SK Engineering share top spot 21st FBAA 6th Goodyear Tires Cup kicks off

KUWAIT CITY, July 11:The Bhasin Co and SK Engineering & Constructions squads were in a class of their own this week to share the top spot when the 21st FBAA Filipino Badminton Association of Ahmadi (FBAA) 6th Goodyear Tires Cup was inaugurated at the Fahaheel Sports Club, Friday.
This tournament, which will run until 12 August, 2001, sees FBAA President Ronald Margate and his dedicated team of office-bearers at the helm of affairs to ensure that this event also runs as smoothly as all the previous ones.
This week’s program saw a large number of close and exciting matches with the tally of the points at the end of the day showing that three teams opening a gap over the others.
Bhasin Co. and SK Engineering & Construction both had identical scores of 32 wins and 93 points to share the top position after the first round of games while Worley Parsons Resource & Energy were lying in second place after scoring 29 wins and 85 points.
AMEC were alone in third place after compiling 23 wins and 67 points, followed by Wataniya Telecom with 19 wins and 60 points, Goodyear Tires 17 wins and 55 points and holding up the whole table were Western Union with 15 wins and 48 points.

With only the initial games having been played, the tournament could see a rapid change of places every week as there is still a very long way to go before the event comes to a close.
The event is being held over the following six categories: Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s Higher C, Men’s Lower C, Ladies A/B and Mixed C. Each team consists of 4 players and 10 matches will be played by each squad. The scoring system is based on the accumulated number of matches and total set points with the top four teams in each category advancing to the semifinals.
Before the start of this week’s matches, the tournament was inaugurated with a simple yet impressive opening ceremony which started off with the acknowledgement of all the sponsors by Annie Centeno followed by prayers led by April Fernandez.
All the players then took the Oath of Sportsmanship which was led by Erwin Buela before the tournament was declared open by FBAA President Ronald Margate.

Men’s A
In Men’s A, SK Engineering opened up the day with a landslide 4-0 victory over Worley Parsons after Sherwin Felizardo and Jong Rimando pressed on the accelerator in the last two sets to edge Joshua Lagran and Marvin de Luna 8-15, 15-12, 15-11 while Gerry Aguilar and Edward Pascual brushed aside Francis Enriquez and Tony Osea 15-12, 15-10, Sherwin and Gerry outlasted Joshua and Francis 11-15, 15-10, 15-12 and the tandem of Jong and Edward tamed Marvin and Tony 15-12, 15-11.
Wataniya compiled a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against Bhasin when Leeforp Alonzon and Allan Bondoc thumped Joms Tantiangco and Philip Marimla 15-12, 15-10, Ron Margate and Sunil Raj edged Mike Florendo and Emil Millanar 15-6, 10-15, 15-7 and Forp with Ron hammered Joms and Mike 15-13, 15-8. Bhasin did not go home empty handed when Philip and Emil fought wisely to beat Allan and Suni in 3close sets l 14-16, 15-10, 15-13.
Later that day, Wataniya showed some real class and collected a 3-1 win and 7-5 points against SK Engineering as Forp and Allan outlasted Sherwin and Jong 12-15, 15-5, 15-6, Ron and Sunil were made to sweat for every point before they could edge Gerry and Edward 15-13, 14-16, 19-17 and the pair of Allan and Sunil overcame Jong and Edward 17-15, 15-10. The tandem of Sherwin and Gerry saved the day for SK Engineering when they overwhelmed Forp and Ron in 2 easy sets 15-8, 15-12.
Worley Parsons and Bhasin tied with 2 wins each but Worley Parsons collected 8-4 points when Joshua and Francis overcame Joms and Mike in two extended sets 15-9, 18-16 and Marvin and Tomy broke no sweat to beat Philip and Emil 15-12, 15-10. Bhasin bounced back through Joms and Philip who edged Joshua and Marvin 11-15, 18-16, 15-13 while Mike and Emil outlasted Francis and Tony 15-13, 7-15, 15-7.

Men’s B
The Men’s B category saw SK Engineering achieve a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against Wataniya as Joel Buot and Kenan Lobo overwhelmed Janette Rimando and Joel Marasigan 15-7, 15-13, Joel and Arnold Miclat came up with a game plan to edge Janette and Annie Blouin in one of the mouthwatering clashes that day after an extended 3- set play 10-15, 15-7, 19-17 and the pair of Kenan and Hans Itaas blended well on the courts to overpower Joel and Glenn Perea 15-13, 15-10. Wataniya collected a single victory through Annie and Glenn when they thrashed Arnold and Hans 15-10, 15-5.
Goodyear acquired a 3-1 win and 10-2 points against Western Union driven by Aileen Perez and James Blaz who thumped Tim Torres and Roma Valdez 15-12, 15-8 while Marlad Aman and Aileen tamed Ryan Aguilar and Tim 15-13, 15-9 and Arj Lesaca with James overcame Karlo Petines and Roma 16-14, 15-10. Western Union were saved by the pair of Ryan and Karlo who outlasted Marlad and Arj 11-15, 15-13, 15-6.

AMEC got 2 wins as did Worley Parsons but they scored 7-5 points when Rio Ferrer and Gun Urip wasted no time to beat Kevin Yap and Gene Aniversario 15-10, 15-8 while Gun with Kiesha Stecky crushed Gene and Ato Mondejar 15-12, 15-3. Worley Parsons retaliated through Maricel Romano and Ato who brushed aside Adrian Simeon and Kiesha 15-12, 15-10 while Kevin with Maricel outlasted Rio and Adrian in a seesaw battle 15-11, 13-15, 15-12.
Bhasin generated a 3-1 win and 7-5 points against SK Engineering through Roman Malabanan and Robert Gubat who overwhelmed Arnold and Hans 15-9, 15-12 while Anthony Valdez and Roman edged Hans and Joel 11-15, 15-12, 15-11 and the tandem of Kenjie Corpuz and Robert outlasted Kenan and Hans 12-15, 15-12, 15-10. Joel and Kenan scored for SK Engineering when they overcame Anthony and Kenjie 16-14, 15-6.
The afternoon games saw Worley Parsons complete 3-1 win but they tied with 6 points against Western Union as Maricel and Ato edged Tim and Roma 15-11, 13-15, 15-7, Ato and Kevin outlasted Ryan and Tim 10-15, 15-6, 15-7 and Gene with Ato beat Karlo and Roma 15-10, 16-18, 15-13. The tandem of Ryan and Karlo saved the day for Western Union when they put in their best efforts to overcome Kevin and Gene in 2 extended sets 15-7, 17-15.

Men’s Higher C class witnessed AMEC (black) complete a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against Wataniya driven by Shy Daprosa and John Fernandes who overcame Claire Agsao and Grande Agao 17-15, 15-6 while JR Briones and Shy tamed Jeth Adlawan and Claire 15-12, 15-9 and the tandem of M. Sha and John outlasted Eric Farthing and Grande in a close 3-set game 17-19, 16-14, 15-10. Wataniya did not go home empty handed when Jeth and Eric thumped JR and M. Sha 15-8, 15-9.
Bhasin accomplished a 3-1 win and collected 10-2 points against Goodyear (maroon) after Tony Elamparo and Lloyd Rodrigues overwhelmed Kumar Krishna and Allen Miole 15-5, 15-6, Alvin Godoy and Tony wasted no time to beat Aldrin Turalde and Kumar 15-7, 15-9 and the pair of Anne Diaz and Lloyd hammered Rohan and Allen 15-7, 15-10. Aldrin and Rohan saved the day for Goodyear when they outlasted Alvin and Anne 15-12, 8-15, 15-12.
SK Engineering generated a 3-1 win and 10-2 points against Western Union (white) driven by Melissa Rodriguez and Enrique Macarandang who overcame Cathy Lesaca and Elmer Rivera in 2 extended sets 15-6, 19-17 while Ronaldo Marquez and Melissa thumped Ahmad Stecky and Cathy in back to back sets 15-13, 15-13 and the pair of Freddie Ocampo and Enrique brushed aside Jeanette Tantiangco and Elmer 15-12, 15-10. Ahmad and Jeanette saved the day for Wester Union when they outlasted Ronaldo and Freddie 14-16, 15-12, 15-10.

Goodyear (yellow) collected a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against AMEC (gray) as Sajid Avila and Nihar Esmula tamed Chito Santos and Keesha Ng 15-10, 15-13 while Jorge Vergara and Ell Parado outlasted Marvin Abalos and Erwin Buela 15-7, 7-15, 15-12 and the pair of Sajid and Jorge edged Chito and Marvin 12-15, 15-5, 15-8. AMEC scored through Keesha and Erwin when they beat Nihar and Ell in 3 extended sets 12-15, 15-11, 17-15.
Western Union (orange) and Worley Parsons scored 2 wins and 6 points when they clashed. Western Union scored through Arcee Florendo and Martin Vidal who overpowered Cris Castilla and Benjie Abastillas 15-9, 15-9 while Jemmo Palado and Arcee edged Anthony Petrache and Cris 12-15, 15-13, 15-13. Worley Parsons bounced back through Anthony and Cheryl who overcame Jemmo and Rico 18-16, 15-13 while Cheryl and Benjie outlasted Rico and Martin 13-15, 15-11, 15-9.
Later that day, Bhasin accomplished a landslide victory against AMEC (black) as Alvin and Anne brushed aside JR and M. Sha 15-13, 15-12 while Tony and Lloyd hammered Shy and John 15-9, 15-6, Alvin and Tony tamed JR and Shy 15-9, 15-13 and the tandem of Anne and Lloyd outlasted M. Sha and John 15-8, 9-15, 15-13.

Wataniya and Worley Parsons collected 2 wins each but Wataniya finished ahead with 7-5 points with Jeth and Eric overwhelming Anthony and Cheryl 15-10, 15-13 while Jeth and Claire thumped Anthony and Cris 15-12, 15-10. Worley Parsons fought back through Cris and Benjie who brushed aside Claire and Grande 15-8, 15-6 while Cheryl with Benjie edged Eric and Grande 15-6, 11-15, 15-12.
AMEC (gray) achieved a 3-1 win and 7-5 points against Western Union (orange) after Keesha and Marvin fought for every point to beat Jemmo and Rico 14-16, 15-11, 16-14 while Keesha and Chito outlasted Jemmo and Arcee 15-8, 14-16, 15-13 and the pair of Marvin and Erwin hammered Rico and Martin 15-11, 15-7. Western Union did not go home empty handed when Arcee and Martin worked hand in hand to overwhelm Chito and Erwin 15-10, 15-7.
Goodyear (yellow) and Western Union (white) collected 2 wins each but Goodyear scored 7-5 points after Jorge and Ell overcame Cathy and Elmer 16-14, 15-13, and Sajid and Jorge tamed Ahmad and Cathy 15-9, 15-12. Western bounced back through Ahmad and Jeanette who beat Sajid and Nihar 15-12, 15-11 while Jeanette and Elmer edged Nihar and Ell 15-12, 11-15, 15-13.


SK Engineering displayed some real class when they completed a total victory against Goodyear (maroon) driven by Ronaldo and Freddie who overcame Aldrin and Rohan 15-10, 17-15 while Melissa and Enrique thrashed Hilda and Allen 15-7, 15-6, Ronaldo and Melissa edged Ardrin and Hilda 14-16, 15-9, 15-11 and the pair of Freddie and Enrique overpowered Rohan and Allen 15-5, 15-10.
Men’s Lower C
In Men’s lower C, Worley Parsons compiled a landslide victory against Wataniya (black) driven by Vicente Joaquin and Rhandy Bumatay who thumped Ernel Carino and Gay Ramas 15-12, 15-10 while Michael Rodriguez and Freeman Gallevo overcame Modesto Unida and Tony Avila 17-15, 15-8, Vicente and Michael edged Ernel and Modesto in a seesaw battle 15-8, 11-15, 15-8 and the tandem of Rhandy and Freeman tamed Gay and Tony 17-15, 15-10.
Bhasin acquired a 3-1 win and 10-2 points against AMEC after Shiraj and Art Cotoco crushed Jonathan Pangilinan and Denzil Fernandes 15-2, 15-13, Shiraj and Jeremy Lindquist wasted no time to beat Jonathan and Nicols Flores 15-13, 15-10 and the pair of Art and Archieval Vargas thrashed Denzil and Irwin Climaco 15-6, 15-10. The tandem of Nicols and Irwin saved the day for AMEC when they fought wisely to edge Jeremy and Archieval 15-9, 14-16, 15-6.
Wataniya (green) collected a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against Goodyear as Sonny Custodio and Gerry Torio won by default against Joel Pereira and Cheyenne Lampian, Danilo Basco and Hammie Itaas wasted no effort to thrash Roy Fuscubio and Bien Fajardo 15-9, 15-2 and the pair of Sonny and Danilo thumped Joel and Roy 15-7, 15-11. Goodyear scored through Cheyenne and Bien when they overwhelmed Gerry and Hammie 15-8, 15-12.
SK Engineering accomplished a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against Western Union when Domnic Coelho and Marlon Villanueva tamed Charles Buenavista and Dodong Bagao 15-9, 15-13, Jay Parantar and Rhyan Alcantara thumped Shubert Noronha and JD Omara in back to back sets 15-11, 15-11 and the tandem of Dominic and Jay overwhelmed Charles and Shubert 15-13, 15-10. Western Union did not go home empty handed when Dodong and JD blended well on the courts to overcome Marlon and Rhyan 17-15, 15-10.
Later that day, Bhasin were all warmed up and accomplished total victory against Wataniya (green) through Shiraj and Art who thumped Sonny and Gerry 15-13, 15-7 while Jeremy and Archieval outlasted Danilo and Hammie 13-15, 15-12, 16-14, Shiraj and Jeremy hammered Sonny and Danilo 15-12, 15-9 and the tandem of Art and Archieval sweat a lot before they could edge Gerry and Hammie 16-14, 13-15, 19-17.

The Ladies A and B class saw Worley Parsons complete a 3-1 win and collect 9-3 points against SK Engineering after Sharon Aguila and Belinda Valdez overcame Sang Piscasio and Daisy Villanueva 15-12, 16-14, Sharon and Stella Cagampang beat Sang and Arlene San Mateo 15-12, 16-14 and the girl power of Belinda and Melanie Miole thumped Daisy and Mary Jane Lamenggong 15-8, 16-14. Arlene and Mary Jane saved the day for SK Engineering when they hammered Stella and Melanie in back to back sets 15-12, 15-12.
Bhasin achieved a landslide victory against AMEC (gray) as Beng Pastor and Gay Caedo overwhelmed Mhean Golpo and Annie Centeno 15-11, 15-11, Marilou Ocampo and Noraiza Parado edged Tanette Tuliao and Marivic Palad 5-15, 17-15, 15-13, Beng and Marilou thrashed Mhean and Tanette 15-7, 15-8 and the pair of Gay and Noraiza outlasted Annie and Marivic 15-3, 6-15, 15-10.
AMEC (green) got 2 wins and 6 points as did Western Union when Cecille Ibon and Mau Itaas wasted no time to beat April Fernandez and Jenny Rose 15-9, 15-7 while Jellica Espinosa and Cecille edged Regina Casano and April 17-19, 15-9, 15-6. Western Union bounced back through Regina and Beth Marasigan when they brushed aside Jellica and Sanse Mendoza 16-14, 15-13 and the tandem of Beth and Jenny Rose outlasted Sanse and Mau 15-7, 12-15, 17-15.
Goodyear shared their four matches with Wataniya but they scored 7-5 points after MJ Hassan and Psyche Palado overcame Kristine Novino and Rushe Flores 16-14, 15-6, Lyn Mendoza and Psyche overwhelmed Gren Padrones and Rushe 15-12, 15-13. Wataniya retaliated through Susan Habos Santos and Gren who wasted no effort to crush Maggie Haddad and Lyn 15-6, 15-2 while Susan with Kristine edged Maggie and MJ 15-8, 9-15, 16-14.
Later that day, AMEC (green) and Bhasin collected 2 wins each but AMEC went home with 7-5 points as Cecille and Mau overpowered Marilou and Noraiza 15-4, 15-5 and Jellica and Cecille thumped Beng and Marilou 16-14, 15-11. Bhasin bounced back through Beng and Gay who outlasted Jellica and Sanse 13-15, 15-11, 15-7 and the pair of Gay and Noraiza brushed aside Sanse and Mau 15-12, 15-11.
SK Engineering collected a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against Western Union through Sang and Daisy who edged Regina and Beth in a seesaw battle 15-12, 6-15, 15-7 while Arlene and Mary Jane hammered April and Jenny Rose in two easy sets 15-4, 15-4 and Sang with Arlene tamed Regina and April 15-4, 15-12. Western Union did not go home empty handed when Beth and Jenny Rose worked hand in hand to edge Daisy and Mary Jane 15-8, 8-15, 15-12.

Wataniya scored through Susan and Kristine as they overwhelmed Mhe Ann and Tanette 15-11, 15-4.
Worley Parsons acquired a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against Goodyear when Sharon and Belinda tamed Maggie and Lyn 15-13, 15-9 while Sharon and Stella brushed aside Maggie and MJ 15-11, 15-7 but the girl power of Belinda and Melanie were made to sweat for every point before they could edge Lyn and Psyche 9-15, 16-14, 19-17. In the Mixed C event, Bhasin and Worley Parsons had 2 wins and 6 points each. Bhasin won through Anna Rodriguez and Yvone Macaraig who tamed Leala Palado and Mean Abris 15-13, 15-11 while Cherry Mae Pascual and Anna overcame Marilou Ocampo and Leala 15-8, 17-15. Worley Parson fought back through Marilou and Antonette Climaco who beat Cherry Mae and Ellen Elamparo 15-13, 15-12 while Antonette and Mean crushed Ellen and Yvone 15-6, 15-8.
SK Engineering completed a 3-1 win and collected 8-4 points against Western Union through Melanchie Omara and Armand Andrada who thumped Kenneth Yap and Wilma Nicolau 15-9, 15-11 while Sharon Lobo and Divina Camagay hammered Harben Pastor and Ailene Gallardo 15-9, 15-7 and Melanchie with Sharon edged Kenneth and Harben 15-8, 15-17, 15-11. Western Union scored when Wilma and Ailene won by default against Armand and Divina.
In the afternoon matches, Bhasin and Goodyear had 2 wins each but Bhasin collected 7-5 points after Cherry Mae and Ellen brushed aside Abi Piscasio and Richelle Patriarcha 15-10, 15-7, Cherry Mae and Anna overpowered Abi and Kay Esplana 15-6, 15-5. Goodyear scored through Kay and Lawrence F. Vidallo who wasted no time to beat Anna and Yvone 15-6, 15-3 while the pair of Richelle and Lawrence outlasted Ellen and Yvone 15-8, 11-15, 15-10.
Worley Parsons compiled a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against Western Union when Kumar and Antonette edged Kenneth and Wilma 15-11, 10-15, 15-7, Leala and Mean overcame Harben and Ailene 17-15, 15-12 and Antonette with Mean tamed Wilma and Ailene 15-10, 15-7. Western Union did not go home empty handed when Kenneth and Harben worked hand in hand to edge Kumar and Leala 17-15, 9-15, 15-8.
SK Engineering compiled 3 wins and 8-2 points with one pending game against Goodyear after Melanchie and Sharon thumped Abi and Richelle 15-7, 15-12, Melanchie and Divina outlasted Abi and Kay 3-15, 16-14, 15-12 and Shron with Edelyn won by default against Richelle and Lawrence.
