Gulf states are one, cannot be separated Sheikh Nasser holds talks with Bahrain counterpart MANAMA, July 8, (KUNA): His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah held official discussions with his Bahraini counterpart, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa at Manama’s Gudaibiya Palace on Friday.
The two sides expressed readiness to coordinate on issues of joint interest, regional and international affairs and Gulf Cooperation Council efforts.
For his part, Prince Khalifa expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s position on the recent crisis that his country went through, which he said was not unusual, and was a position of support at all times and circumstances.
“What the Kingdom (of Bahrain) went through proves to everyone that we (Gulf states) are one, and that we cannot be separated. The sole destiny of our nations clearly reflects this,” Prince Khalifa said.
He added: “Kuwait and Bahrain are one country and have one destiny, united by the Gulf Cooperation Council,” and that whatever may affect one of its six states, affects the other five.
Bahrain stood firmly by Kuwait, during its invasion by Iraq back in 1990, he said.
The prince went on to commend the efforts of the ongoing national dialogue in Bahrain, and the Bahraini King’s initiative to do so.
The two officials followed the comment with a bilateral meeting lasting over an hour.
Prince Khalifa also held a luncheon in honour of the visiting Kuwaiti premier and his accompanying delegation, also attended by Bahraini officials and major dignitaries.
Sheikh Nasser arrived here earlier Friday on an official visit as part of his Gulf tour.
He was received at Bahrain International Airport by Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the accompanying mission of honor Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and several other Bahraini officials and Kuwaiti Ambassador in Bahrain Sheikh Azzam Mubarak Al-Sabah.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival, HH the prime minister said he was so happy to be here where he has fraternal and friendly ties with the Bahraini people.
He said his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain is part of continuing contacts among the GCC member states over many issues of mutual interest.
Sheikh Nasser hailed firm historical relations among the GCC member states as an example for international ties in view of integration, solidarity and cooperation.
He recalled to memory the great role played by the GCC countries in supporting Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, saying the Kuwaiti people would never forget their efforts in hosting Kuwaitis and liberating Kuwait.
Prior to his departure from the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Sheikh Nasser welcomed on Thursday Bahraini King’s call for national conciliation dialogue with all political parties involved and his pledge to continue with path of reform in the country.
In a statement to KUNA, HH Sheikh Nasser asserted the importance of the call which would pave the way for brighter future and push forward with reform in the Kingdom.
Sheikh Nasser also called on all Bahraini parties involved to positively respond to the national conciliation call and ensure its success for the benefit of the Kingdom.
Sheikh Nasser concluded a two-day visit to Qatar before leaving for Bahrain on the final leg of his Gulf tour.
He was seen off at Doha International Airport by Qatari Minister of State for Internal Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, Kuwaiti Charge D’Affaires Bedah Al-Dosiri and several other Qatari officials and Kuwaiti diplomats.
During his stay here, HH the prime minister had met Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on bilateral relations and Gulf integration.
They also discussed their countries’ positions on the latest regional and international developments.
Qatari newspapers highlighted on Friday Sheikh Nasser two-day visit to Qatar.
On its first pages, Qatari newspapers focused on the Kuwaiti premier’s meeting with the Qatari Heir Apparent Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the capital of Doha, where the Kuwaiti top official relayed the greetings of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
Exceptional bilateral ties and the latest regional and international developments were discussed during the meeting.
Al-Sharq leading Qatari newspaper reiterated in its editorial the “deep-rooted Qatari-Kuwaiti relations which have been on a constant improvement under the patronage of the two countries’ leadership.” The editorial, which came under the title of “Exceptional and Unique Ties”, noted that Sheikh Nasser’s visit to Qatar came as a “reflection” of the brotherly ties and “embodiment” of the joint cooperation between the two neighboring gulf countries in all fields.
The multilateral ties among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are “excellent” due to on-going communication and meetings among the countries’ officials, the newspaper concluded.
