Cabinet to discuss women’s civil rights draft bill on Sunday Omair slams some MPs over calls for PM’s ouster KUWAIT CITY, July 2: The Cabinet will discuss the report of the parliamentary Women Affairs Committee on the women’s civil rights draft bill in its regular weekly meeting on Sunday to pave the way for its approval in the next legislative round, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.
Sources said other items in the agenda of the Cabinet include the issues highlighted in the latest interpellation of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Sources confirmed Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr Amani Buresli will brief the Cabinet on the steps taken to regulate prices in the local market, while Minister of State for Development Affairs Abdulwahab Al-Haroun will be asked to prepare a clear vision on financing the development plan, and Finance Minister Mustafa Al-Shamali will present a report on the financial and coordination regulations related to financing the plan.
Sources added the Cabinet might reject demands for a special parliamentary session to iron out differences in the teachers’ salary increment bill, cancellation of loan interests, and the oath-taking of Al-Haroun, because the legislature had earlier discussed these issues.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Supervisor MP Ali Al-Omair has denounced some lawmakers for serving personal interests and calling for the ouster of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah without verifying the allegations, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Al-Omair pointed out the incessant conflicts between the executive and legislative authorities have escalated political tension in the country. He also clarified that he is not the coordinator of the Salafist Movement, but a member who strongly supports the political stand of the group in line with its ideals and objectives. “We do not differ on issues related to the Islamic Sharia or the elections. We usually vote on recommendations and respect the opinion of the majority,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Al-Qabas daily has reported that MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei has confirmed the continuation of the activities of the Nahaj Movement to demand for the ouster of the premier. He divulged a plan to hold gatherings during the summer break to put pressure on the concerned officials to address a number of issues.
