KUWAIT CITY, June 22: A scandal involving three senior diplomats has been unearthed at the Kuwaiti consulate in Los Angeles, reports Al-Rai daily quoting knowledgeable sources.
The sources added the money embezzled has exceeded $3 million and the former consul and two diplomats are believed to be involved in what the daily called ‘financial irregularities’.
The sources added the scam came to light when the new consul took charge of the mission and an unidentified employee showed copies of checks and documents to the new official to authenticate his claim.
The sources said the Consul has dispatched the employee to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait and a committee was formed to investigate the issue.
The committee is said to have returned to Kuwait with concrete evidence that the former consul and the two diplomats were in fact involved in embezzlement but the ministry has not yet taken any action.
