10 people held, 5,657 citations issued, 297 cars seized Crackdown on violating ‘jet-skiers’ in Khairan
KUWAIT CITY, June 18: The General Traffic Department (GTD) carried out an extensive inspection campaign in the six governorates over the weekend, leading to the issuance of 5,657 traffic citations, confiscation of 297 vehicles, and arrest of 10 persons, including a teenager.
According to a press statement released by the Interior Ministry Saturday, a team from the GTD issued 1,381 citations and seized 61 vehicles in the Capital Governorate; 675 citations and 23 vehicles in Farwaniya; 1,520 citations and 23 vehicles in Hawally; 295 citations in Ahmadi; and 610 citations and one vehicle in Jahra.
Moreover, the Operations Unit at the GTD recorded 1,080 traffic violations, in addition to impounding 189 vehicles and arrest of 10 persons, including a teenager. A total of 96 violations were also registered at the Kuwait International Airport, the statement added.
Scant care for law: A drunken girl in indecent clothing, and in the company of a youth, was arrested by securitymen on patrol in Salmiya area, says Al-Seyassah.
Sources said policemen noticed the girl with a male companion flirting inside a car and ordered her to pull over for checking. It was then the officers discovered the girl was improperly dressed. The youth, with the girl, was referred to the concerned authority for immorality on the road. Meanwhile, an 18-year old Bedoun was stabbed and injured in the shoulder when he fought with another youth in front of the Sulaibiya police station.
Sources said police came out of the station to stop the fight, and the injured person was taken to the Farwaniya Hospital for treatment, while the other party was arrested. A case has since been registered for investigation.
Crackdown on violating ‘jet-skiers’ in Khairan: A team of Coast Guard officers carried out a surprise inspection campaign in Khairan on Saturday, resulting in the issuance of 100 citations to jet ski and fishing boat owners found to have violated the law.
In a press statement Saturday, the Ministry of Interior revealed Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Major General Sheikh Mohammad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah supervised the campaign. Khairan Mayor Major General Ali Al-Za’abie accompanied the assistant undersecretary during the inspection. After receiving several complaints from residents in the area, the officers intensified their efforts to stop the violations, which include the use of unregistered fishing boats and jet skis, failure to carry safety gadgets, lack of stickers, over speeding, failure to write name and number, going beyond the allowed proximity to the beach, change in descriptions of boats and jet skis, operation of boats and jet skis by those under 18 years, and failure to adhere to the recommended starting point.
