‘Grilling requests have lost credibility’ Prime Minister will survive no-confidence vote: Busairi

KUWAIT CITY, June 15: Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Busairi, assured on the sidelines of the parliamentary session on Wednesday that HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah will survive the no-confidence motion against him.
He said that the Cabinet is expecting the legislative majority to support the PM on June 23 and that Sheikh Nasser  will prove he is worthy of His Highness the Amir’s trust as well as the confidence of MPs and the Kuwaiti people.
Opposition MP Musallam Al-Barrak, meanwhile, spoke to the press during the parliamentary session, assuring that he is 90 percent sure that the interpellation against the prime minister by the Popular Action Bloc (PAB) on public funds will be submitted on Sunday. He pressed reporters to keep voicing their objection to the recent NA decision to move journalists to the top floor of Abdullah Al-Salem Hall.
Al-Busairi reiterated that Tuesday’s interpellation with opposition MPs was unconstitutional and said that grilling requests have lost their credibility and quality because their numbers have increased and they are being used against the PM for personal gains.
He added that the government always complies with the proponents of the Constitution under Abdullah Al-Salem Hall in regards to grilling requests and challenged opposition forces to prove otherwise.
Commenting on the new laws that were approved during Wednesday’s session, Al-Busairi said that the government has a few reservations on the new laws, but that they were unfortunately ignored by the MPs who were eager to pass them. He noted that the government has other options to deal with those laws within the framework of the law and Constitution.
Furthermore, hinting their position on the no-confidence motion against Sheikh Nasser, MP Saleh Al-Mullah spoke on behalf of the National Action Bloc (NAB) and said that the government has done what it could for the Kingdom of Bahrain as per the Gulf Peninsula Shield agreement. He added that the NAB would have questioned the government if it had sent Kuwaiti forces to deal with protestors in Bahrain.
Al-Mullah, however, said the bloc will finally decide on the motion on June 23 within Abdullah Al-Salem Hall.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Jassem Al-Khorafi said that the upcoming regular sessions starting from June 29 will be allocated for discussion on state budgets. He said that he received requests from members of parliament, such as MP Saadoun Hamad, to formally announce the completion of this legislative round on June 29. On the pending grilling request by the PAB against the PM, Al-Khorafi said that it is possible to postpone interpellations until the next legislative round if the assembly agrees to it.
