Mass transportation could help end traffic congestion Population to hit 6m in 2030

KUWAIT CITY, June 11:  The Transport and Traffic Committee at the Kuwait Society of Engineers organized a workshop recently to increase public awareness on the mass transportation system in Kuwait and road network development to cater to the needs of the growing population, which is estimated to reach six million by 2030, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Speaking at the workshop, Committee Chairman Eng Al-Hajeb revealed a representative from the Kuwait Municipality was invited to the event to discuss traffic issues and the condition of mass transportation in the country.
Consultant Brian Willy presented the mass transportation plan until 2030 as part of the third structural program of the country.
He started by pointing out the wrong infrastructure, which cannot accommodate the growing population and its failure to encourage the public to use mass transportation.  He said the current mass transportation system is acceptable but it requires serious upgrading to match the future structural plan.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohammad Al-Yaqout admitted there are serious problems that need immediate and permanent solutions.  He explained the workshop was aimed at highlighting the mass transportation system as a major solution.  He also emphasized the need to identify the problems associated to the system and traffic flow in order to come up with the best solutions.
