New system traps many entering on fake docus Prints identify forgers at airport
KUWAIT CITY, June 8: Two hundred and seventy people have so far been arrested by the Kuwait International Airport authorities - people who attempted to enter the country on forged passports, reports Al-Mustaqbal daily.
The arrests came over a two-month period after the introduction of the new system which identifies persons who had been deported from the country based on fingerprint reports.
Drug traders nabbed: Anti-narcotics officers arrested two expatriates for trading in drugs with one kilogram of marijuana in their possession.
After receiving information from a reliable source about an Asian man selling marijuana, Director General of the Drug Control General Department (DCGD) Major General Sheikh Ahmad Al-Khalifa instructed a team of officers to put the suspect under surveillance until the gathered enough evidence. The team then obtained a search and arrest warrant and then arranged an entrapment. They sent an undercover agent to purchase half kilo of marijuana worth KD 900 from the suspect, who was arrested after completion of the bogus transaction in Salmiya.
During interrogation, the Asian admitted the crime and guided police to his accomplice, who was also arrested with half kilo of marijuana in his possession.
The suspects were referred to the Public Prosecution for the necessary legal action.
Miraculous escape: An Asian woman had a miraculous escape from death following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of the First Ring Road with Al-Istiqlal Road, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to reports following the accident the woman was trapped inside her car wreck and police sought the help of firemen to rescue her. She was taken to a hospital by paramedics. Following the accident traffic was blocked for some time.
Traffic blocked: Vehicular traffic was blocked for some time on the Jamal Abulnasser Street opposite to the Kuwait University gate, reports Alam Alyawm daily.
According to sources this happened when sacks of flour slipped from the back of a truck and fell in the middle of the road while the driver was attempting drive along the roundabout.
Speeding was reportedly the cause of the accident.
Garages shut: The Jahra police, in cooperation with personnel from the Kuwait Municipality in a surprise crackdown on garages which repair cars without permission from the police are said to have impounded 20 cars and administratively shut down 20 garages at an unidentified location, reports Al-Rai daily. According to reports all cars belong to reckless youths who hold illegal races and make stunts with their vehicles.
Record citations: Deputy Manager of the Violations Department at the General Traffic Department (GTD) Colonel Hussein Al-Mutairi was recently quoted as saying 313,000 traffic citations were issued during the first quarter of 2011, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Mutairi added the authorities have impounded 27,000 cars during 2010 and first quarter of 2011 because the motorists were involved in serious traffic violations.
On the other hand the statistics issued by the General Traffic Department stated approximately 17,000 traffic accidents were reported during the first quarter of 2011. During this period 129 people died as a result of road accidents, 10 percent more than 2010 during the same period.
Terror hit warned: A Kuwaiti student at the Business Institute has informed the Al-Naeem Police Station in Jahra that he has received a call from Iraq from a person who said he is working for the Iraqi intelligence, reports Al-Anba daily.
The student says the man claims a bomb-laden car will be used to ‘destroy’ Mina Abdullah.
However, the Al-Qabas daily gave another version of the story saying the caller offered the student money to help the entry of the car via Abdali border post and take it to Mina Abdullah.
A security source said the security at the port has been tightened.
Wanted man held: Police have arrested a Kuwaiti man who is believed to be in his 60s and wanted by law in connection with several financial cases – failing to pay debts worth KD 22,000, reports Al-Anba daily.
According to reports the man was initially taken into custody for reckless driving and while issuing a citation police discovered the man was wanted by law.
