New service for citizens, expats MoI begins texting visa, traffic matters

KUWAIT CITY, June 7: The Ministry of Interior on Tuesday launched ‘Phase One’ of its services SMS.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Information Technology and Communications at the Ministry of Interior Sheikh Meshaal Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah has announced the Ministry will soon begin the new service using state-of-the-art technology and communication systems.

The service allows citizens and residents of Kuwait to receive SMS notifications and reminders on vehicle registration expiration, an expired driver’s license, traffic fines and tickets, residency expiration, visa expiration, issuance of passports, new individual nationality papers and an election registration reminder.
Sheikh Meshaal said the new service will be launched in cooperation with the VIVA Telecommunications Company and the schedule will be as follows:

A person will be reminded seven days prior to the expiry of the registration and after the expiry a warning message will be sent regularly, the same goes for expiry of driver’s license. However, a person will be reminded 15 days prior to the expiry of residence permit and visas and warned regularly after the expiry.
Persons who have outstanding traffic fines will be reminded occasionally.

People will be reminded six months before the expiry of their passports and once a week after.
Other services include reminders for citizens to renew their citizenship certificates. They will also be reminded once a year to get registered on the voters list.
