Hankook Tires bag 20th FBAA crown Spirited Wataniya Telecom finish 2nd
KUWAIT CITY, May 30: Hankook Tires showed that they are in a class of their own when they won the title in the 20th Filipino Badminton Association in Ahmadi (FBAA) Conference “5th Hankook Tires Cup”, at the Fahaheel Sports Center, Friday.
Hankook Tires finished in top place by compiling a total of 127 victories and 374 match points to finish as champions beating off a strong challenge from Wataniya Telecom who took the first runners-up spot when they collected 121 wins and 356 match points.
The other teams were far off in the distance although they also put up a tough fight in the tournament which last few weeks with McDonalds Kuwait taking the 2nd runners-spot when they compiled 107 victories and 322 match points.
As usual, FBAA - led by their chairman Ronald Margate and supported by a dedicated group of office bearers, saw the tournament run smoothly to prove that they are still one of the best badminton organizations in the country.
In the matches, three points were awarded to the pair who took their game in two sets while the winners got two and the losers one if the match went to three sets.

On the other hand, in the individual groups, after the scores of the games had with the winners playing in the semis and winning groups competing for this season’s titles in their respective categories.

In Men’s A, NLB Corp claimed a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against Hankook Tires after Carlo Bornilla and Sheikh Ibrahim outlasted Albert Marcelo and Joms Tantiangco 15-6, 9-15, 15-12, Carlo and JP Parayno edged Albert and Tony Osea 15-8, 12-15, 15-12 and Sheikh with Zahidul Islam hammered Joms and Nikka Mae Hatoum 15-9, 15-8. Hankook Tires win came when Nikka and Tony beat Zahidul and JP 17-15, 11-15, 15-11.
Worley Parsons compiled a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against AMEC as Joshua Lagran and Allan Bondoc thumped Forp Alonzo and Jong Rimando 15-13, 15-8 while Sonny Cajipe and Sunil Raj edged Anthony Mendoza and Gerry Aguilar 10-15, 15-7, 15-10 and Joshua and Sunil crushed Forp and Gerry 15-13, 15-7. Jong and Anthony saved the day for AMEC when they overwhelmed Allan and Sonny 15-10, 15-8.
SK Engineering and McDonalds scored 2 wins and 6 points each. SK Engineering scored through Joenel Seva and William Naoe who outlasted Ed Antonio and Francis Enriquez 7-15, 15-6, 15-11 while Joenel and Ron Margate edged Ed and Emil Millanar 11-15, 15-8, 15-12. McDonalds bounced back through Dave Laguio and Emil when they beat Marvin De Luna and Ron 15-7, 11-15, 15-12 while the tandem of Francis and Dave overcame William and Marvin 15-13, 6-15, 16-14.
McDonalds and Wataniya also got 2 wins and 6 points each with McDonalds’ Dave and Emil taming Mike Florendo and Jerry Labagnoy 19-17, 15-5 while Francis and Dave edged Bon and Mike 11-15, 15-12, 15-13. For Wataniya, Rowx Bugas and Bon Elamparo brushed aside Ed and Francis 15-9, 18-16 while Rowx and Jerry outlasted Francis and Dave 15-11, 11-15, 15-13.
In the afternoon games, Hankook Tires generated a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against SK Engineering as Albert and Joms thumped Joenel and William 15-12, 15-11 while Nikka and Tony edged Marvin and Ron 15-10, 12-15, 15-13 and Joms with Nikka hammered William and Marvin 15-12, 15-8. Joenel and Ron saved the day for SK Engineering when they beat Nikka and Tony 11-15, 15-9, 15-7.
NLB Corp pulled off a landslide victory against Worley Parsons after Carlo and Sheikh edged Joshua and Allan 12-15, 15-4, 15-11 while Zahidul and JP thumped Sonny and Sunil 15-5, 15-12, Carlo and JP tamed Joshua and Sunil 15-13, 15-12 and Sheik with Zahidul overpowered Allan and Sonny 15-7, 15-7.
AMEC and Wataniya got 2 wins each but AMEC collected 7-5 points after Anthony and Gerry brushed aside Mike and Jerry 15-11, 15-10 and Forp with Gerry overwhelmed Rowx and Jerry 15-8, 15-11. Wataniya bounced back through Rowx and Bon when they edged Forp and Jong 17-15, 7-15, 15-11 and Bon with Mike wasted no time to beat Jong and Anthony in back to back sets 15-9, 15-9.
