Committee finds it difficult to retrieve wrongly paid monies Some MEW workers won’t receive bonus payments
KUWAIT CITY, May 28: The committee formed by Minister of Communications Dr Mohammad Al-Baseeri to collect funds that have been paid to some employees by mistake, as well as the unpaid debts, faces difficulty in collecting an estimated KD 214, 000, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The daily quoting sources stressed that some employees had faultily collected social and incentive allowances to the tune of KD 113,000 and violated the Civil Service Commission’s Decision Numbers 1/1979 and 2/1986. He said the committee is struggling to collect back that amount, but it faces challenges because some of the beneficiaries have retired from active service, whereas they hadn’t signed any documents to effect the payment.
He explained that the amount in question accumulated for several years after the ministry failed to collect what turned out to be waste of public funds and violation of regulations, indicating accumulated debts total KD 101,000, partly dating back to 1986.
Many employees at the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) will not receive the bonus that former minister, Dr Bader Al-Shuraiaan, promised to give them for working continuously last summer as part of the ministry’s commitment to ensure ample power supply to meet the growing demand of the populace during the hot summer months, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting sources.
Sources said the list of the employees entitled to the bonus was approved by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) three weeks ago. However, sources revealed many employees and department heads have been removed from the list for unknown reasons, while those still on the list have yet to receive the bonus.
