‘Govt legislators’ instigating crisis Power – by hook or by crook

THE attitude of the government in the previous session of the Parliament when it referred the grilling request against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to the Constitutional Court and the legislature voted in favor of the postponement of the interpellation for one year was actually an attempt to empty the Constitution of its contents. This happened despite our bitter experience in 1967, in addition to the attempt to revise the Constitution in 1981 and the alternative National Council in 1990.

After such attempts, the government decided to change its methods to disregard the Constitution through the lawmakers. It has been said repeatedly that the government has obtained the support of a parliamentary majority. However, at this point I blame the lawmakers, who won parliamentary seats through the votes of the people and consider themselves as the representatives of political trends, such as Dr Mohammad Al-Busairi, Ali Al-Rashed, Dr Ahmad Al-Mulaifi and Hussein Al-Huraiti. They have been trying to defend the prime minister and impede the Parliament from playing its supervisory and legislative roles.

Mr Prime Minister, the interpellation request submitted by the National Action Bloc against Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs and State Minister for Housing and Development Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Fahd Al-Sabah is just a way to defend you. Why did they become so aggressive, considering their stand against the grilling motion presented by the Development and Reform Bloc? The National Action Bloc had earlier expressed reservations on the timing of the submission of the interpellation request by its development and reform counterpart. Why? The people will definitely pay a high price for the alliance we are currently witnessing.

As for the joke that Sheikh Athbi Al-Sabah is behind the grilling request presented by the Development and Reform Bloc, I appeal to the National Action Bloc to please respect our ideas. Why don’t people say that the poor performance of the seventh government is the reason for our backwardness, failure to enforce the law, misappropriation of public funds and other problems that pushed the nation towards the brink of collapse? It is disappointing to realize that the government’s main concern is facing the Parliament. The government is currently preparing for the Friday event at Safat Square and it will definitely use the National Guard.

Under such circumstances, we cannot help but wonder who is the instigator of crisis? Is it the government and the wrong pieces of advice from certain parties? They had previously advised the executive to attack the lawmakers at the Diwaniya of Al-Harbash. Who is manipulating the sectarian file to divert public attention from the violations committed by the government against the Constitution? They have been exhausting all means to remain in the seat of power for the longest possible time.
