KUWAIT CITY, May 21: There are indications that the Council of Ministers will Sunday approve the new salary scale of KD 400 for teachers affiliated to Ministry of Education and its Awqaf and Islamic Affairs counterpart, so that teachers in the two ministries will enjoy equal treatment with colleagues at the applied education and training institutes, reports Al-Shahed daily.
A source was quoted as saying that the authority had previously refused to include 1,500 teachers in the Awqaf Ministry who teach at the Quranic centers, Al-Seraj Al-Munir (illuminating light)  and Al-Qari Al-Sagher (small readers). He said the decision by Minister of Education Ahmad Al-Mulaifi to exclude teachers from the Awqaf Ministry to deter their transfer or escape from the Education Ministry infuriated the Awqaf Minister who insisted they should be included.
He reiterated that MP Jama’an Al-Harbash has been mounting pressure to ensure swift approval of the cadre. He stated that Kuwait Teachers Association had also pleaded for inclusion of teachers from the Awqaf Ministry by discussing the issue with concerned officials in Ministry of Education
