‘Nuke plant to benefit Kuwait’

The Bushahar Nuclear Plant in Iran is the safest nuclear reactor in the world, so there is no reason for Kuwait and its people to be alarmed by its operation, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting Kuwaiti Iranian political affairs expert and Nuclear Science researcher at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) Dr Moustafa Ghloum.
Allaying fears of the Kuwaiti populace over reports that Iran has commenced operation of the plant, Ghloum asserted Kuwait will not face any calamity caused by the plant. He also voiced optimism on the visit of Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Akbar Al-Salehi to Kuwait - the last leg of his tour of GCC countries. He urged the Kuwaiti and Iranian officials, who will take part in the discussions, to strengthen ties between the two nations.
Ghloum confirmed the Russian company that established the plant is one of the best nuclear power builders in the world. He pointed out Kuwait can actually benefit from the plant in many areas like agriculture, industry and medicine. He believes Kuwait must collaborate with Iran to conduct a study on nuclear power through exchange programs between the experts in both countries. He also advised the Kuwaiti government to build a nuclear plant for power production to conserve 340,000 barrels of oil used daily to generate 11,000 megawatts. He said the country will save KD 17 million every day if it builds a nuclear plant. He added Kuwait will recover the estimated cost for the construction of the plant, around $5 billion, within two years.
