KUWAIT CITY, May 13: The Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) has to collect dues worth KD 299.720 million, informed sources told Al-Seyassah daily, adding the information was stated in the monthly report the ministry submits to the Finance Ministry.
Sources said the amount includes unpaid fees for services offered to customers, damages caused to ministry’s facilities as well as some loans dating back to 1980s. The figure was estimated in March this year.
The Consumers Affairs Sector is exerting diligent efforts to collect dues from consumers, said sources, adding the ministry is taking a number of steps and has started issuing notices to defaulters.
The ministry managed to collect KD 125.373 million which is nearly 59.5 percent of bills until March this year. This is, however, much lesser than the 73.4 percent it collected during the corresponding period last year.
