Woman accused of bribery, stealing documents freed

KUWAIT CITY, May 7: A woman accused of bribery and stealing official documents from her workplace was acquitted by the Court of First Instance.


The case file indicates those documents belonged to applicants transferring their commercial visit visas to private sector residence permits. The defendant and five other persons were accused by investigation authorities of perpetrating illegal transactions without receiving stipulated fees, and bribery.


The defendant lawyer argued the outcome of investigations contradicted the allegation because transactions of that nature could not be completed by a single employee. The lawyer explained that the transaction required certain procedures that could not have been fulfilled by his client, and that she was merely responsible to deliver the documents to officials for processing.



Brothers acquitted: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted two brothers of stealing and damaging a car.


The suspects were accused by driver of the plaintiff for stealing the car, following a traffic accident involving the suspects and the driver. The brothers denied the charges and their lawyer pointed out the accusation was spitefully motivated, and there’s no single confirmation to allegation that his clients really committed the crime, he argued.



MoI sued: Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan, on behalf of an Egyptian woman, filed a case against the Ministry of Interior demanding compensation of KD 5001 for his client hit by a patrol car.


Al-Qattan said the Public Prosecution had charged the officer driving the patrol vehicle of violating Article 33 of traffic law and crossing a red traffic signal. The officer is said to have caused injuries to the woman unintentionally who spent huge amount of money on treatment, besides psychological and emotional trauma she was subjected to.



Verdict overturned: The Appeals Bench of the Criminal Court recently overturned the verdict of the lower court which had acquitted a member of the Municipal Council Faraz Al-Daihani, the editor-in-chief of an unidentified magazine and a writer and ordered each of them to pay KD 3,000 compensation to the director of Jahra Municipality, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.


According to case papers Al-Daihani had criticized the director during a meeting and accused him of misappropriating the Municipality funds and flirting with female employees of the Municipality.


This was reported by the by the magazine and the director filed a libel suit against the magazine, the write and the member of Municipal Council.
