Woman cheated on wedding night Asian workers protest for salary
KUWAIT CITY, May 3: A Kuwaiti woman has lodged a complaint at Al-Qairawan Police Station, accusing her ex-husband of fraudulently making her sign on a promissory note worth KD 50,000, reports Al-Anba daily.
The woman said the incident took place four months ago on their wedding night when she unsuspectingly signed on a blank paper.
The woman said she and her husband had many disputes which eventually led to their divorce and added that she was shocked when the man reminded her of the paper she signed and said it was a promissory note for KD 50,000 and that if she did not pay the amount to him, she would be imprisoned.
The ex-husband will be summoned for questioning.
In an unrelated story, the special duty squad of the Interior Ministry arrested five people wanted by law and referred them to the Sentences Enforcement Department, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. It is reported that three of the arrested men were sentenced in absentia to 5 years, 3 years and 1 month imprisonment respectively and the others were wanted by law for failing to pay debts worth KD 33,000 and KD 5,000.
Workers protest: More than 100 Bangladeshis working for an unidentified company recently demonstrated and submitted a memo to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor accusing the owner of a company of not paying their salaries on time and also deducting some money from their salary for no reason, reports Al-Shahed daily.
According to the workers the sponsor’s brothers came into their quarters and beat them with the butt of a stun gun.
The workers resumed work when a senior official from the company promised to solve their problems.
