KD130 health insurance plan worries expats ‘Price hike, school fees, rent enough burden’

KUWAIT CITY, April 26: Expatriates are concerned over the proposed health insurance scheme through which they shall receive treatment in 3 separate hospitals and 15 clinics after paying KD 130 yearly instead of the current KD 50.

In the proposed scheme, families will receive discounts that will cover lab and X-ray examination, as well as medical checkup, reports Al-Rai daily.

Based on opinions sampled by Al-Rai daily, expatriates are worried about the financial implications of the health insurance scheme, considering the hike in prices of foodstuffs, fees at the private schools, rent and other miscellaneous expenses, while some urged a rethink of the proposal, in order not to complicate life for expatriates.

Some expatriates called for a system that will allow payment of the KD 130 in installments, whereas another set of people said they would resort to treatment at the pharmacy if the plan is put to effect. Also, others wondered whether the health care of foreigners has now become a source of trade.

Ahmad Hussein, an engineer with wife and 3 children said the only solution is to send his family back to their home country because he couldn’t afford paying KD 420 for health insurance each year. Lending voice to Hussein, Mamduh Sharqawi also considered the decision as injustice against expatriates, particularly those with families and others that rarely visit the hospitals.

He urged the KD 50 scheme should remain in use, even if additional fees would be levied on those going for treatment in the hospitals.

Not WorthSameer | 7/19/2011 6:37:14 PM KD130 is too expensive for the quality of service provided by the hospitals. The recent article on Arab Times proved how poor the treatment being conducted. I suffered when my daughter got acute urine infection, where the doctor could not diagnose it and instead they asked me to visit the hospital to see a specialist with a appointment after 30days. So I asked the doctor what is the remedy until then, he said manage with repeated dose of antibios.. We did what he instructed finally we approached the Specialist on the given time.. while my daughter didnt recover from the temporary treatment.. where I was asked to do some scanning, and tests, finally after one week we met the Dr. again he said nothing is there go and see the Gynecologist.. my wife burst in cries how stupid the dr. was, finally I had spend around KD450 to at International Clinic, but could not find a proper cure. And I could only get this cured cheap and in very simple way in my country. I wonder why such rich country could not have good qualified doctors..most of these doctors are just science students. Before you could speak to explain your sickness.. they would say go to pharmacy. When this is the condition of Kuwait medical system is it worth paying KD130 and why on earth people would take such a risk to bring parents and relatives to get medical attention when our country has professional doctors at affordable rate.
kd 130 insurancenadeem malik | 4/27/2011 10:16:51 PM i agree with rajesh gandhi... we work so hard, day and night for our families here and back home.. but the government seems to be finding ways to make our lives more harder and finally kick us out... plz we request our kuwaitee government to think for us too.. we work harder than the locals here and face more problems as well ... this is unfair...
KD 130 Insurance tooooooo muchRajesh Gandhi | 4/27/2011 9:27:56 AM Kwt govt seems to make money from expats and distribute to the Kuwaitis, as free gifts. The expats toil to do the jobs and what they get, is more burden in the form of Insurance. There is enough of the Oil wealth which can take care of the expats health. So please do not burden the expats with this KD 130 health insurance.
