KUWAIT CITY, April 9, (KUNA): Since its launch, the Apple-manufactured mobile, iPhone, has presented many interesting features, including being a significant source of information, however, there remains to be a number of notable disadvantages.

Professor of Political Sciences at Kuwait University Ibrahim Al-Hadban, views, in statements to KUNA here on Wednesday, that the iPhone has become an important source of information, liking it to media outlets.
The device’s ability to provide an immediate audiovisual description of global events is a great advantage, as well as its ability to interact with people, handing them an instant opportunity to voice their own opinions, he added.
Of its disadvantages, he said the device affects the concentration span of students during their reception of information.

On another note, Psychology Professor, Moussa Al-Rashidi said that the device could allow patients who fear visiting their psychologist, the opportunity to seek long-distance therapy, but could be on the other hand, a means of social isolation.

Sociology Professor, Ali Al-Tarrah suggested that the iPhone’s aiding of the distribution of rumours is a dangerous phenomenon.

He warned that public awareness on the dangers of inaccurate news should be a prerequisite ahead of the distribution of such a device, which has hit the country and our society by storm.

Media Professor Alia Al-Matrouk, says that the “unconventional form of media” targets an audience unbound by media ethics, whereby “an unknown sender can distribute whatever they like, to whomever they like.” What has made the device popular among consumers is its quick transfer of news and information, despite the low credibility rate of this, she said.
