KUWAIT CITY, April 8: The Technical Department of the Ministry of Information acting on information recently raided a warehouse in Hawalli and seized 14,000 pirated video CDs including porno material, reports Al-Qabas daily.
According to security sources the raid is part of a campaign on shops that sell pirated CDs.
The sources added the raids were initiated after one shop in the area was caught selling pirated CDs.
The sources said such efforts will continue and the concerned authorities will spare no efforts to combat this type of violations and to protect the intellectual property rights.
Securitymen arrest 9 Asians, confiscate spoilt meat, veggies:In a crackdown on vendors of vegetables in Jleeb Shuyoukh and Hasawi areas, security operatives in coordination with Kuwait Municipality have arrested 9 Asians and confiscated quantities of spoilt vegetables and meat.
Sources said the team arrested 7 Asians as they raided the vegetable market in Jleeb Shuyoukh and seized quantities of vegetables unfit for human consumption after the owners escaped leaving their stuff behind.
The team went ahead to the market in Hasawi area and arrested 2 more Asians who were caught selling spoilt vegetables. Members of the team impounded huge quantities of unhealthy vegetables, fish and meat.
The culprits have since been referred to the relevant authority for necessary action.
Two held for eve-teasing: Two youths were arrested for harassing girls and disturbing passersby in Rumaithiya area. This follows several reports the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received about some youths bothering people in the area.
Sources said many of the culprits managed to escape at the sight of police, apart from the two youths that were arrested.
‘Refer mandoubs to PP’: The Undersecretary of Ministry of Justice Abdul-Aziz Al-Majid has requested the Minister of Justice Rashid Al-Hamad to refer a number of ‘mandoubs’ of the Ministry of Information to the Public Prosecution for their involvement in suspicious ‘advertisements’ deals which has resulted the ministry losing about KD 300,000, reports Al-Qabas daily.
According to an official source the undersecretary had earlier formed a committee to investigate the issue based on a report submitted by the Kuwait Audit Bureau which blamed the mandoubs for negligence in collecting legal fees.
5 Asians beat up Egyptian: An unidentified Egyptian man who was badly beaten by five Asians following an argument has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Jahra Hospital, reports Al-Anba daily.
According to reports this happened when the men working at an unidentified construction site were involved in an argument over job issues.
The daily did not give more details.
Police overpower drug addicts: Police from the Capital governorate acting on information rushed to the Drug Addiction Treatment Center at the Psychiatric Hospital and overpowered 15 drug addicts who had held the hospital employees hostage in a bid to escape from the center, reports Al-Rai daily.
The detainees sought help from the Operations Department of the Interior Ministry when the addicts held them hostage in a vain attempt to escape.
According to a security sources the wards were raided and the situation at the center became normal.
Kuwaiti stabs compatriot: A Kuwaiti youth who was allegedly stabbed by a compatriot while driving along a road in Salmiya has been rushed to the intensive care unit of the Amiri Hospital and was said to have undergone a surgery, reports Al-Anba daily.
This happened when the youths had stopped at a traffic light and they argued over the right to go first.
Following an argument, one of the youths allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the other.
It is not known if the suspect has been arrested or not.
Police arrest 18 youths: The Jahra police in a crackdown against reckless motorists, most of them believed to be young men, who hold races and make stunts, are said to have arrested 18 youths for causing nuisance to shoppers and harassing young women and families, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The daily added a special task force has been formed for this purpose to monitor market places to prevent these boisterous youths from harassing shoppers and residents of the area.
