Cops acquitted in custodial rape of Asian women
KUWAIT CITY, April 2: The Criminal Court acquitted two security officers of sexually abusing some Asian women detained in the Immigration Department.
Case files indicate the women accused the officers of sexually abusing them while under the custody of the department. They filed a formal complaint at the Women Prison Unit, which forwarded it to the prison manager.
The Public Prosecution conducted investigations but the officers vehemently denied the accusation, claiming the complainants created trouble several times in the detention cell.
Attorney Ali Al-Wawan, who defended the officers in court, argued the women fabricated the story to obtain support from certain authorities to legalize their stay in the country. The court then ruled in favor of his clients and declared them not guilty.
Case overturned: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted a Kuwaiti of insulting a public sector employee on duty.
The Court of First Instance had earlier ordered the Kuwaiti to pay a fine of KD50 but further investigations revealed he was actually the victim because the employee’s colleagues testified that the latter behaves inappropriately at work and is always grumpy.
Attorney Hassan Al-Ajmi, who represented the Kuwaiti in court, argued the employee always creates trouble and does not deal well with his colleagues. He also pointed out that the employee was transferred from one department to another several times as punishment for misbehavior. He added an order has been issued on the non-payment of one month salary to the employee for habitual tardiness.
After hearing the arguments of both sides and the testimonies of witnesses, the court ruled in favor of the Kuwaiti and affirmed his innocence. The session was presided over by Judge Mohammed Al-Khalaf.
