MEW, KISR sign KD 6 bln MoU for research on water, energy ‘Ministry keen to provide consumers best services’

KUWAIT, March 30, (KUNA): Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) signed here Wednesday a KD 6-billion memorandum of understanding (MoU) for five years for bankrolling research on energy, water and environment.

Minister of Electricity and Water Dr. Bader Al-Shuraiaan said, in a statement today, that the ministry attaches great importance to scientific research as it is included within its policies as part of the development plan, adding that such move lends support to decision-making process, making it based on scrutinized scientific rudiments, in addition to upgrading efficiency, and improving resource management.

He also expressed his confidence in KISR, asserting that it wields huge potentials and expertise that accumulated over the past 45 years under the institute’s administration, and its technical team, wishing them all success.

Al-Shuraiaan also deemed KISR as a frame of reference to the Ministry of Electricity, and some other ministries in view of what it provides of technical consultations, making clear that the MoU is an important step that helps both MEW and KISR join efforts to further depend on local scientific cadres.

On his part, KISR Director General Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi said that MoU comes as a culmination of the constant cooperation over long decades between the two parties on issues related to water resources, and energy output with the aim of finding best ways for meeting the growing demand for such vital needs.

Al-Mutairi stressed that MEW was keen to provide water and electricity for the service of consumers, and to keep up with the accelerating pace of development in the state, adding that such move was reflected on the ministry’s lending support to various research projects and activities carried out by KISR to achieve water secturity to the country and provide it with the energy needed for the development process.
