Ruling in student rape bid on April 3 Woman wins, to keep KD 38,000
KUWAIT CITY, March 27: The Criminal Court in Bahrain will declare its verdict in a sexual assault case involving a Kuwaiti female student on April 3rd. The student said after she finished her classes and returned to her hotel room, a man knocked the door of her room. When she opened the door, the student said, a man in hotel uniform forced his way into the room, tore her clothes off and closed the door.
She said due to her screams, the man had to flee and hotel officials rushed to her and took the man’s description who turned out to be a Pakistani employee at the hotel. The plaintiff’s lawyer accused the Bahraini hotel in his lawsuit of attempting to conceal evidence. The judges decided to add the hotel as a second defendant in the case after the Bahraini Ministry of Interior proved in a report that the hotel indeed tried to conceal evidence in addition to forcing the plaintiff to sign a document in English to waive her right in the case. The hotel also brought a man claiming that he was a police detective.
Woman wins case: The Cassation Court ruled in favor of a Kuwaiti woman against whom a businessman had filed a case and demanded that she repay KD 38,000 he had paid through two cheques. The court also ruled off an appeal over the admissibility of laws concerning oath in the absence of the defendant.
