Assembly again approves KD 50 pay increment for all Kuwaitis ‘Enough’ movement disrupts session

KUWAIT CITY, March 22: The Parliament on Tuesday approved the proposed KD 50 increment for all Kuwaiti employees in the government, private, oil and military sectors, as well as those who receive financial assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs, the pensioners, and the handicapped.
The bill had been approved earlier but it was referred back to the legislative authority for amendments to include those who receive more than a KD 1,000 salary.

MP Dr Yousuf Al-Zalzalah thanked his colleagues for approving the amended bill to ensure justice for all. “We congratulate all Kuwaitis for this good news,” he said.
MP Musallam Al-Barrak also expressed his gratitude to the legislature for approving the proposal presented by the Popular Labor Bloc. He pointed out the increment will ease the financial burdens of the citizens and guarantee social justice.

Meanwhile, 10 members of the ‘Enough’ youth movement disrupted the session when they suddenly started chanting slogans, calling for the resignation of the government, which they accused of engaging in corrupt activities. They also raised placards stating, “Apologize to Saudi Arabia, Apologize to Bahrain”. Acting Parl-iament Speaker Abdullah Al-Roumi adjourned the session for 15 minutes and asked the securitymen to send the youths out of the hall.

During the session, the Parliament agreed to extend the deadline for the Health Affairs Committee to complete investigations on the irregularities in the Overseas Treatment Department, but the panel should submit its report before the end of the current legislative term.

The legislature also extended the deadline for the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee to finalize discussions on the parliamentary membership of Khalaf Al-Dumaitheer and instructed the panel to present its report in the next session.
