Demonstrations by Bedouns in Taima, Sulaibiya and Ahmadi areas
Lawmakers blasted for stance on Bedoun issue Sheikh Jaber commends CSRSIR for good work done

KUWAIT CITY, March 11: The Chairperson of Kuwait Society for Resisting Discrimination Fayez Al-Nashwan is disappointed with failure of the National Assembly to resolve the human and civil rights of Bedoun during its recent session, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In a statement, Al-Nashwan said it became clear that some lawmakers are inhumane and insensitive to the plight of this group comprising more than 100,000 men, women, children and youths living hard life, after studying proceedings of the parliamentary sessions discussing the Bedoun crises. “It’s unfortunate that the teachings of Islam and Article 29 of the Kuwaiti Constitution stipulating equal opportunities and rights for all have not been implemented”, he said, condemning statements issued by some lawmakers about Bedouns being none-Muslim, pointing to their lack of understanding of the principles of the Constitution.

He urged the government not to renege on its approval of social rights for Bedoun, and advised that Bedouns must ignore the inordinate calls for protests that might affect the implementation of social rights approved by the government.

Meanwhile, First Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and Head of the Board of Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR) Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak commended the efforts and achievements of the system, saying it has added to the humanitarian accomplishments of the country, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

Decision
He made the statement at a meeting with CSRSIR Chairman Saleh Al-Fadalah who presented details of steps and actions taken in coordination with ministries, institutions and establishments in implementing the Cabinet’s decision on Bedouns.

The Cabinet, in its last meeting, had approved some social, human and civil rights and facilities for Bedouns. Sheikh Al-Mubarak urged utmost cooperation by all concerned to see through the issue while considering the legal, humanitarian, security, social and economic aspects.

Political activist Khalid Al-Shulaimi warned Bedouns calling for protests of adverse consequences. He said such protests could hamper the stability and security of the nation and hence, should not be accepted. He said the government had already taken courageous and palpable steps when it appointed Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak as head of the CSRSIR, in addition to approving the rights of these people. Al-Shulaimi said he suspects foul play by foreign elements who want to use the Bedoun issue to cause instability in the nation.
