TV fined for insulting Arab nations Restore power, water: court

KUWAIT CITY, March 8: The Criminal Court fined a local TV channel KD 20,000 for insulting Egyptians and Moroccans in one of its serials.
The serial showed the heroes going to Agadir city to meet some Moroccan girls and the girls’ mother was shown putting some ‘magical’ substance into their coffee cups in an attempt to make the men marry her daughters.
The serial portrayed Moroccan people as practicing black magic and bribing others.

‘Restore power, water’: A Kuwaiti court on Monday ordered the Ministry of Electricity and Water undersecretary, chairperson of the Higher Committee for Civil Defense and Ministry of Interior undersecretary to immediately restore electricity and water supply to the house of an Ahmadi resident, in addition to bearing the expenses and payment of legal fees.
Case files indicate the plaintiff also asked the court to prevent the officials from touching his property, which is located in Block 1, Ahmadi.  Power and water services had been disconnected in the area since Feb 1.
Attorney Humaidi Al-Sabie, lawyer for the plaintiff, commended the court ruling against the unconstitutional procedures and forceful eviction of his client.  He argued the residents are not against the evacuation of the area but it must be done properly through a written agreement in accordance with Property Arbitration Law number 33/1964.

Verdict amended: The Court of Appeals amended five years jail term it slapped on five Kuwaitis in absentia and refrained from pronouncing judgment on alleged falsification of salary and employment continuity certificates that enabled them obtain KD 100,000 loan from a local bank.
The charge sheet indicates the three men and two women presented falsified salary certificates showing they were employees of a cleaning company with inflated salaries to get the loan.
The defendant lawyer Abdullah Al-Elanda pleaded the judge must refrain from pronouncing judgment, based on Article 81 of the criminal code. He claimed the fifth defendant had presented the documents by mistake because she didn’t know they were faked. Moreover, the fifth defendant had paid the amount in question to the bank.
