Team seizes 790 kilos of ‘rotten’ meat imported from Asian nation

KUWAIT CITY, March 4: Authorities have seized 790 kilograms of expired meat imported by air from an Asian nation, the Minister of Municipal Affairs said on Friday.
Dr. Fadhel Safar, also the Minister of Public Works, according to a statement, followed up on the seizure of the rotten meat by inspectors of the food and markets supervision department of the municipality. He added that the meat products were destroyed at Al-Shuwaikh Central Slaughter House under supervision of veterinarians.
The minister said the municipality would pursue the campaign against expired or unfit food and warned that tougher supervision would be imposed to protect health safety of citizens and residents of the country.
Meanwhile, the director of the municipal branch of the capital, Faleh Al-Shemmari, said the relevant authorities are regularly examining all food products to ensure safety.
Mubarak Johar, the director of the inspection and municipal services follow-up department in the capital, said veterinarians examine, on daily basis, food stuffs imported via the airport.

Mentally ill in suicide bid: A Jordanian youth, who is believed to be mentally unstable, allegedly tried in vain to end his life by jumping to his death from the roof of building, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Acting on information police and firemen rushed to the spot and coaxed the youth into giving up the idea.
Without going into details the daily said the youth has been detained for interrogation.

Drunk motorist in accident: A drunken Kuwaiti man who hit the vehicle of a fellow citizen and damaged a section of the man’s home in Ferdous area was taken into custody, after securitymen arriving at the scene searched inside the car and found a bottle of imported liquor. Upon interrogation, the officers realized the man was intoxicated. A case has been registered against him.

Stolen car found:  Patrol officers on duty recovered a stolen car abandoned in Salmiya area.
Sources said the officers came across the car at a parking lot in Salmiya area and discovered it had been reported missing by a Kuwaiti citizen in Sulaibiya area after checking the details on computer. The car was towed to Salmiya police station for the owner to identify it, and a case was registered for investigation.
