Egyptian teachers’ alleged FB move on pay hike denied Proposal OK’d to reschedule end of exams

KUWAIT CITY, March 4: Chairman of Labor Representatives Office at the Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait Adel Sobhi denied all reports about some Egyptian teachers who allegedly created a Facebook page to demand salary increments and threatened to resign if the demands were not met, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Dismissing the reports as rumors, Sobhi said the Egyptian community is a law-abiding community and respects rules and regulations all over the world, particularly in Kuwait which has a special place in all Egyptians’ hearts.
He stressed the Egyptian Labor Office is against such movements since they are illegal and are against the Egyptian labor ideology.
Furthermore, the ‘Expatriate Teachers Society in Kuwait’ rejected such actions and called for stopping the issuing of provocative comments “as some saboteurs take advantage of such calls to provoke chaos in the country.”
Meanwhile, the new president of the Kuwait University Dr Abdullatif Al-Bader has stressed on the importance of future aspirations to guide the path of the university towards more advancement, reports Al-Anba daily.
He also expressed his keenness on achieving a balance between the main tasks undertaken by the university which are teaching, scientific research, and community service.
In his first interview with the journalism department of the university and e-publishing at the university’s public relations and media administration, Al-Bader called for enhancing the academic level in the university and said it is crucial to continue with enhancing academic programs according to state of the art educational and academic standards.
He also called for total development in terms of research, planning, organization, and supporting academic services.
He said it is imperative to support majors and specializations that represent priorities in light of our national needs.
Al-Bader expressed his desire to expand the role of community service so that it covers as much of the society as possible.
In the meantime, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud said the ministry’s Undersecretaries Council approved proposal by the Assistant Undersecretary for General Education Mona Lunghani to reschedule the end of semester exams, reports Al-Nahar daily.
In a press release, Al-Humoud added exams for the intermediate, fourth and fifth grades will begin on May 31, ending on June 8, whereas students in the twelfth grade will begin their exams on June 12 and finish by June 23, 2011.
