KUWAIT CITY, Feb 28: Anti-narcotics officers recently arrested a Bedoun youth for smuggling and trading in drugs with a large quantity of hashish and heroin in his possession.
Acting on a tip-off, Director General of Drug Control General Department (DCGD) Major General Ahmad Al-Khalifa instructed a team of anti-narcotics officers to put the suspect under surveillance. Initial investigations revealed the suspect had earlier been involved in several drug-related cases and was released from prison last week.
After gathering enough evidence, the team obtained a search and arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution, and then arranged an entrapment by sending a secret agent to purchase a kilo of hashish and 10 grams of heroin worth KD 1,400 from the suspect, who agreed to meet the ‘buyer’ behind the Sulaibikhat Cooperative Society. He was arrested upon completion of the bogus transaction. The team also raided his house in Sulaibikhat where they found 15 kilos of hashish and 40 grams of heroin.
During interrogation, the suspect told the officers that he got the drugs from a relative, who is trafficking in drugs in Iraq. He also admitted to having an agreement with his brother, who is currently serving a 49-year jail sentence for his involvement in nine drug cases and his relatives in Iraq to smuggle and trade in drugs in Kuwait.
