Inmates absolved in drug charges
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 24: The Criminal Court acquitted a number of Central Jail inmates of charges of consuming and possessing drugs inside the premises.
The lawyer of one of the suspects, Yacoub Al-Sane’, asked the court to acquit his client, saying the inspection procedure was illegal since it was not recorded in the prison register and that the inspection permit was issued for other purpose. Moreover, he said, medical tests couldn’t establish that the inmates had consumed drugs.
Woman wins comp: The Court of Appeals ordered a company to pay compensation of KD 5,500 to a Kuwaiti woman for breach of contract.
According to the woman’s lawyer, the company signed an agreement with her that the apartment she purchased will include an entertainment center for the family. However, the woman was surprised when she found out the company removed the center and constructed another apartment — a gross violation of the stipulations of the contract.
The court ruled in favor of the woman and asked the company to pay her KD 5,500.
Anger over decision: Members of the Fatwa and Legislative Authority have expressed disappointment over the decision of the Cabinet to refer the proposal to increase their salaries back to the Civil Service Commission (CSC), sources told the Arab Times.
Sources revealed the stand of the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ahmad Al-Haroun and his Education and Higher Education counterpart, Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud, on the proposed increment has caused resentment among the authority members, who have accused the two ministers of serving personal interests.Sources said the members complained about the possible effect of the Cabinet’s decision on their status, considering they represent the consultants of the State and act as its attorney.They believe HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs and Minister of State for Housing and Development Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Fahd Al-Sabah will support their demands, sources added.
