Court acquits Policeman in Custodial rape and torture of Filipinas
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 22: The Appeals Court acquitted a policeman of charges of illegally arresting, torturing and raping two Filipinas along with two other suspects.
Defense lawyer Abdullah Al-Alanda stressed in the court that there was no evidence against his client. He said the statements of the suspects’ sponsor and the victims contradict each other and added that the report of the Criminal Evidences Department proved the innocence of his client. Based on his arguments, he asked the court to acquit his client.
Mobile groceries raided: Three individuals are said to have raided two mobile groceries in Kabad area and stole KD 120 cash and recharge telephone cards from the first grocery, as well as KD 70 cash and other items from the second one. Sources said the thieves carried out the operation with knives and other sharp objects.
According to the Kuwaiti owners of the groceries, their Asian caretakers had reported the theft to them. Police have since taken the description of the suspects and circulated to various checkpoints for their arrest. A case was registered.
Fooling with cops: Police are looking for an unidentified young motorist for reckless driving, reports Al-Anba daily.
The young man allegedly swerved at a police patrol and the cop behind the wheel in an attempt to avoid a collision, lost control of his patrol car and crashed into a tree on the side of the road.
Lawsuit rejected: The Misdemeanor Court has decided not to accept the lawsuit filed by Minister of Health Dr Hilal Al-Sayer against MP Dulaihi Al-Hajeri who allegedly insulted and humiliated Al-Sayer.
The court had earlier discussed the lawsuit and referred it to the Public Prosecution to take necessary legal procedures for lifting the MP’s immunity.
15 years for kingpin: The Criminal Court chaired by Justice Hesham Abdullah acquitted and discharged three individuals charged for the possession of illicit drugs for consumption and trading purposes, and sentenced the prime suspect to 15 years imprisonment with KD 10,000 fine.
Lawyer of the suspects acquitted by the court, Ali Al-Ali argued that his clients were arrested without concrete evidence, whereas the prosecution officer’s statement was full of lies.
Verdict cancelled: The Court of Appeals canceled the verdict of a First Instance Court that had sentenced a Kuwaiti TV presenter to three years imprisonment, followed by deportation. The Kuwaiti was accused of using a Power of Attorney document that had been annulled previously.
The defendant lawyer argued that only expatriates could be deported from the country, whereas the procedure doesn’t affect Kuwaitis. He maintained his client wasn’t aware the document had been annulled beforehand.
Dean reinstated: An Administrative Court of First Instance canceled the decision of Minister of Education and Higher Education to appoint Dr Fahad Al-Salem as the Dean of Higher Institute for Theatrical Arts and reinstated the right of Dr Khaled Ramadan.
The court said Dr Ramadan was the only candidate fulfilling the prerequisite of the position, among the other nominees. The court ruled that the minister misused her authority and violated the regulations of the institute.
