Kuwaiti charged with hiring thugs to scare staff Egypt detains Lotus Air DG

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 20: The Egyptian Public Prosecutor Dr Abdelmeguid Mahmoud has ordered the detention of Kuwaiti citizen Adnan Al-Falah for four days and slapped a travel ban on him, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Falah is the director-general of Lotus Air – a privately-owned charter airline flying mainly to Europe and is based in Cairo, Egypt and was established in 1997 by Al-Fawares Holding Company and commenced operations in 1998.

Al-Falah has been charged with hiring thugs to assault and frighten the employees of the company after the latter conducted a sit-in in front of the company headquarters after learning the owner of the company was planning to liquidate the company and lay off workers without settling their dues.

According to the workers they demonstrated in front of the company on Feb 14, 2011 and prevented Al-Falah from leaving the office.

At this time they were shocked to see four mini busloads with men arriving at the company and they fired in the air to disperse the employees, workers and protesters.

It has been reported more than 400 employees lay siege of the company for seven days for not receiving their dues believed to be in the range of $6 million.

The employees say there is a strong feeling the company was involved in illegal dealings with members of the former regime. They are said to have found a letter addressed to Al-Falah by the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority in Egypt asking the company to cease its activity.
