Life for principal in student rape Kuwaiti acquitted in drugs case

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 10: The Court of Appeals recently upheld the verdict of a lower court, which had previously sentenced a Kuwaiti school principal to life in jail for raping a student.
The victim told the court that the principal locked him up in the social workers room to rape him. After hearing the testimonies of the social workers and weighing the evidence presented by the victim’s lawyer, the court imposed the maximum penalty on the principal — life imprisonment, taking into consideration his position in the school.
The session was presided over by Judge Nasr Salem.

Kuwaiti acquitted: The Criminal Court acquitted a Kuwaiti of the possession of hashish and narcotic pills for personal consumption, in addition to resisting arrest.
Case files indicate the Kuwaiti was apprehended by a traffic officer for crossing the red light and driving without a license but he was later found to be under the influence of drugs, so he was referred to the concerned security department for prosecution.
During the hearing, Attorney Bashar Al-Nassar, the defendant’s lawyer, presented a witness, who was with the accused at the time of arrest, and he denied all the accusations. The lawyer argued in court that even if his client crossed the red light, it was not enough ground for the arresting officer to search his car and arrest him without a warrant. He said there was a misunderstanding between those who purportedly fabricated the case, adding the defendant’s blood and urine samples have been taken but he tested negative for drugs.
The court, which was presided over by Judge Hisham Abdullah, acquitted the Kuwaiti due to lack of evidence.

Bail for torture suspects: The detention renewal judge on Thursday ordered the release of a security officer and three policemen — suspects in the torture murder of Mohammad Al-Mutairi — on KD 1,000 bail, while extending the detention of six other suspects to continue the interrogations.
Informed sources told the Arab Times the released persons denied any involvement in the case and they have been questioned under duress and deprived of sleep.

No board renewal: The Administrative Court cancelled a decision on the renewal of the tenure of the temporary board of directors of Al-Naseem Cooperative Society.
Sources revealed this came after a former board member of the society filed a complaint, asking the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor to call for fresh elections. Sources said the court nullified the decision in response to the complaint of the former board member.
