1st Kuwaiti female to set foot in Antarctica Jow’an to raise ‘flag’

BERLIN, Feb 10, (KUNA): Representative of Kuwait Science Club Forum (KSCF) Mariam Al-Jow’an plans to be the first Kuwaiti female to set foot in Antarctica during a scientific mission.
The mission is to take place Feb 14-28, with 90 scientists, researchers and students from around the world participating, Al-Jow’an told KUNA on Thursday.

“The mission will set sail from Argentina on Wednesday,” she said.
Al-Jow’an will be researching on the role of Antarctica in the Earth system with a special emphasis on the Southern Ocean because of the importance of it to global climate.

Al-Jow’an is to raise the Kuwaiti flag in Antarctica during the National Day. She told Kuwait News Agency that during her journey, she will have the opportunity to study climate change and its developments through a direct field experience. “I’m proud to be representing Kuwait as the first Kuwaiti female to set foot in Antarctica,” she concluded.
