Dept seizes one ton spoilt fish, 350 cartons of milk for infants Court discharges ‘Traffic’ official of his duty, fined KD 1,600
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: The Imported Foods Department in Kuwait Municipality impounded a ton of spoilt fish and 350 cartons of contaminated milk for infants at the airport. The consignment will be destroyed, reports Al-Seyassah.
Meanwhile, Director of the Department Estiqlal Al-Muslim denied news item published in the local dailies that certain foodstuffs with cancerous substances were imported into the country. He stressed the department closely monitors the border exits to prevent the infiltration of spoilt or harmful foods.
Meanwhile, the Ahmadi Municipality recently destroyed 22-kg of foodstuffs unsuitable for human consumption, reports Al-Seyassah.
The Director of Ahmadi Municipality Fahad Dugaim Al-Otaibi said a team of officers from the municipality embarked on surprise field inspections to warehouses and restaurants inside the cooperative societies in Ahmadi governorate, resulting in the issuance of 21 citations and violation of health conditions.
He stressed the campaign will continue over an indeterminate period and there wouldn’t be any room for compromise or wasta, particularly with the food related violations. In the meantime, the law will be implemented on everyone.
Court discharges ‘Traffic’ official of his duty: The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict of the First Instance Court, which had earlier sentenced a university student to five years in prison and fined him KD1,050 for the possession of drugs for personal consumption and reckless driving.
The student’s lawyer asked the court to acquit his client due to the questionable measures taken by the arresting officer. He also pointed out that the investigation results were inconclusive.
The court, which was presided over by Judge Salem Al-Khudair, ruled in favor of the student.
Two Syrians raid grocery store: Two Syrians who raided a grocery store in Maidan Hawalli and stole several items, inclu-ding telephone recharge cards, money and foodstuff were apprehended by securitymen on patrol in the area.
Sources said the suspect aroused suspicion of the patrol officers based on the suspicious location their vehicle had been parked. Moreover, the suspects became confused when they approached them for questioning. This prompted the officers to check inside the car and found the stolen items.
They confessed to the theft and were referred to the concerned authority.
Kuwaiti man acquitted: The Criminal Court acquitted a Kuwaiti man of insulting his ex-wife, a friend and a public servant, and impersonating an investigation officer.
Case files indicate the Kuwaiti has been accused of abusing his ex-wife, a friend and a policeman on duty. He was also charged with impersonating an investigation officer but his lawyer argued in court the accusations were fabricated.
After listening to the argument of the defendant’s lawyer, the court dismissed the case and declared the innocence of the Kuwaiti due to lack of evidence.
The session was presided over by Judge Yousef Al-Lahdan.
Official discharged of his duty: The Appeals Court supervised by judge Nasr Salem Al-Haid withheld the verdict of a First Instance Court that sentenced the Chairperson of Vehicle Licensing Division of Jahra Traffic Department to 7 years imprisonment with hard labor for violating legal procedures and evading the fees of several cars. The court instead ordered the accused to pay a fine of KD 1,600, and discharged of his duty, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to case paper, the accused took advantage of his position and re-licensed 40 of his cars that are road unworthy, and without following the legal procedures or paying the required fee of KD 20 for each car. He is said to have admitted to the crime.
Drug trading charges quashed: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Adel Al-Saqr acquitted a resident accused of the possession of heroin for trafficking purpose, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The case file indicates the Public Prosecution had charged the resident of possessing heroin, with the intention to trade, in violation of the law.
The defense lawyer Salwa Al-Tarrarwa argued the arrest and inspection conducted at the suspect’s home was null and void, whereas her client was arrested without permission from the Public Prosecution. Moreover, there wasn’t any concrete evidence proving that her client was involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, the Court of Cassation chaired by Judge Abdul-Rahman Al-Darmi declined to punish a citizen accused by the Public Prosecution of possessing drugs for consumption and ordered the citizen to sign an undertaking of good-conduct for one year, reports Al-Anba daily.
The case paper indicates the public prosecution on 4/6/2010 charged the citizen of possessing Multi-Vitamins without a prescription.
The defense attorney, Lawyer Ali Al-Ali, explained his client did not know that he was wanted for interrogation by the Public Prosecution on charges of drugs possession. The lawyer argued the arrest was unlawful, particularly after the witness confirmed he didn’t find any drug with the accused during the inspection.
