Large quantities of rotten fish impounded at airport Filipina steals sponsor’s ATM, cash

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 24, (Agencies): Munici-pality of Kuwait Monday reported the discovery of 410 kilograms of spoilt fish at an entry point at Kuwait Airport.
Food imports official at the Municipality, Istiqlal Al-Msallam, told the press this shipment was discovered due to recently increased effort to monitor traders’ imports and attempts to bring items into the market which are not fit for human consumption, without the least regard for public health.
This increased effort and diligence is encouraged through directives of Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr Fadhil Safar, she said. The ultimate objective is to bring consumers a sense of safety.
The engineer also reported the discovery of 186 kilograms of expired meat products, and noted that there was an attempt to mislead the officials. While the outer packaging stated the goods were fit for consumption throughout February 2011, the interior clearly indicated expiry date as December 2010.
This specific quantity was part of a shipment of 2.33 tons, she said.
Airport food imports department director at the Municipality Ibrahim Al-Ansari meanwhile said this latest shipment reminds inspectors of the vital need to maintain and even increase diligence and care to foil attempts to make profit at the cost of consumer health.

2 held with foreign liquor: Two Asians were arrested with 17 bottles of imported liquor in their possession in Fahaheel area.
Sources said patrol officers on routine duty in the area had seen the suspects and ordered them to stop for checking, in the course of which the imported contraband was found inside their car.
The suspects, with the liquor were referred for further investigation.

Filipina steals cash: Police have arrested a Filipino housemaid for stealing the ATM card of her sponsor and withdrawing KD 1,000 from his bank account, reports Al-Rai daily.
The sponsor, who lives in Sha’ab discovered KD 1,000 missing from his account and was shocked when he was informed by the bank that the money had been withdrawn from a branch in Salhiya.
The sponsor filed a complaint with the police and when securitymen checked the CCTV camera film they found it was the man’s maid.
During interrogation the maid admitted to committing the crime. She added she spent half the money and the other half she gave to her boyfriend.

Car stolen: Police are looking for an unidentified person for stealing the car of a Kuwaiti man, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to reports the man told the Fahaheel police he gave the car for repairs to a garage in the Fahaheel Industrial Area and when he went the next day to get his car he was shocked when the garage owner informed him his car has been stolen.
The garage owner also said the car had been repaired and the car keys were in the ignition. The manager of the garage is held responsible for the loss of the car.
