Prosecution summons senior Info officials in KD 36m fraud
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 24: The Public Prosecution has started summoning some senior officials from the Ministry of Inform-ation for allegedly ‘embezzling’ public money, reports Al-Mustaqbal daily quoting knowledgeable so-urces.
The same sources said this came when the Minister of Information Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah referred some files to the Audit Bureau concerning financial irregularities worth more than KD 36 million committed by a number of senior employees.
Vital docus stolen: The Capital Governorate police from are looking for a veiled woman who allegedly broke into a vehicle of a US citizen and escaped with important papers, a computer laptop, a cell phone and three flash memory devices containing confidential information, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to a cleaning company worker, the woman used a heavy metal object to break the glass. She then flagged a taxi and escaped.
Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department have lifted fingerprints to identify the woman.
A case has been registered at the Salhiya Police Station.
Verdict issued: The Civil Circle of the First Instance Court has issued a verdict in a libel case filed by former MP Mohammed Jassem Al-Saqer against Kuwaiti columnist Fuad Al-Hashem and the Editor-in-Chief of the Al-Watan Arabic daily Sheikh Khalifah Ali Al-Khalifah, reports Al-Jaridah daily.
The court has ordered the defendants to pay the man KD 45,000 compensation.
Al-Saqer was quoted as saying he will appeal the verdict and ask for KD 500,000.
