Govt plans to stop recruitment of expats, except ‘degree-holders’ No residence transfer eyed for marginal laborers

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 24: The government is planning to halt appointment of all expatriates in public sector, except those holding degrees in rare specializations, reliable sources told Al-Sabah daily.
To control the influx of marginal laborers into the country, some important steps need to be taken, like arranging the work market by developing the information and planning systems, enacting new laws and so on, besides increasing national workforce in the job market, said sources.
There are also plans to conduct more training courses, upgrade ministries technologically, in addition to arranging the process of bringing expatriate laborers and offering them all economic and other basic facilities.
There are also plans to grant temporary residence to those who work on major projects, said sources, adding they will not be allowed to transfer the residence or renew it. Also, marginal laborers will not be allowed to transfer their residence, and patrolling will be increased at border areas to prevent the illegal entry of laborers.
