KUWAIT CITY, Jan 18: The Parliamentary Committee for Education, Culture and Guidance Affairs on Tuesday approved a bill on the establishment of a financial portfolio for granting interest-free loans to Kuwaiti students studying in private universities or abroad and another bill on appointing retired Kuwaiti men as guards and women as security supervisors in schools. The bills have been referred to parliament for ratification.
The committee is also planning to invite MPs to its meeting next week to discus the government’s proposed amendments to Audio-Visual Media Law and Press and Publications Law.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, committee Chairman Dr Jamaan Al-Harbash said they discussed the issue of dividing the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) into two bodies - Public Authority for Applied Education and Technical Training College. The committee listened to justifications of PAAET teaching staff and decided to invite Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud to its meeting next week.
He pointed out that the committee also met members of the Philippine-Kuwaiti Students Association and after listening to their grievances, decided to discuss the issue in presence of Minister of Education and Higher Education.
