Kuwait Pinoy keep Chargers winless Ali Abdul Wahab & Sons Co blow away Popeyes

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: The cold weather may have affected play of some teams in the ongoing PABAK/Western Union 24th Conference Basketball Tournament at the Kuwait Sports Club for the Disabled in Hawally as favored squads crashed in uncharacteristic manner to unfancied opponents.

Ali Abdul Wahab & Sons Co 68, Popeyes/Kafco 48
In the day’s opening game in the Non-Leaguers group, the shoe specialists did not waste time on the court, blowing away the game but overmatched restaurateurs behind the hot shooting of Gerry Punzalan and Flaviano Ramirez who knocked in 24 and 16 points respectively while Danreb Villablanca and Eduard Torres paced the loser with 16 and 14 points apiece.

Kuwait Pinoy 57, Gulf Catering Co Chargers 54
The foodmen must have rued lost chances in extra time after battling Kuwait Pinoy to a standstill in regulation time, missing out on the chance to land their first win throughout the duration of their campaign in the Non-Leaguers group.
Ranches, Ombra and Funtanares tallied double digit scores of 17, 15 and 10 pts apiece in Kuwait Pinoy’s win. Joeper Famurcan shot 14, Jerico Corpuz 13 and Arnold Armea 9 pts in the Chargers’ losing cause.
Kout Food Group 20, Hyundai Construction 0
The KFG squad won no-sweat over a no show Hyundai hardhats in the third game of a 4-game Non-Leaguers sked.

Golazzo Tailors 52, Kuwait Lokos 52
Marvin Sosoban punctured the hoops on his way to scoring 21 markers in leading the Golazzo tailors to an easy win over the spunky Kuwait Lokos squad in game four. Gil Cruz and Jayson Gammad added 9 and 8 apiece to their winning tally. Jhim Petallana paced the Lokos with 11 pts while Alvin Vallesteros and Jhess Bonifacio chipped in 8 and 7 each.

Natasha Cargo 86, Berksmen Barakos 52
The cargomen took advantage of an under-strength Barako squad to inflict the worst loss on the defending Open Division champs, riding the double figure outputs of big guy Cris Pascual who had 18, Tom Kalaquian 14, Randy Golocan 13 and Ivan Beltran with 11 points while Ronald Sotero added 9.
Marlon Bautista scored 16 with Remo Devera making 13 points in a losing effort for the defending champs missing the services of the irrepressible Mike Sumague.

Marina Aces 83, Mark Ali 59
James Carillo fired 24, Romy Navarro 22 and Rey Masangya 18 points in the Aces’ lopsided win over a lackluster Mark Ali squad which got 16 from Marvin Ermac, 13 from Jojo Obordo and 11 from Dodz Diaz in game six action in the Veterans group.

Marina FM 88.8 56, Toyota Hybrid 50
The DJ’s outraced the carmakers in the closing stages of their match to win their game seven encounter, employing balanced scoring and tough defense to grind out a hardfought victory. JB Villanueva led Marina FM 88.8 with 15, Aton Delos Reyes added 10 and Jojo Lodonia 9 with the rest spread among the team. Bobit Cabale and Jervel Teves both scored 16 in a losing effort for Toyota.

Al Alamiah/Ilocano Warriors 71, Manila Cargo 56
The Warriors put the cuffs on the cargomen’s chief shotmaker Abet Ilocto the carve out a convincing triumph over unpredictable Manila Cargo in the second Veterans group match in game eight with Darren Bejarin orchestrating play while also delivering clutch hits. Carlos Tan shot 16, Juancho Ang 14 and Bejarin 10 points for the winning Al Alamiah/Ilocano Warriors. Nelson Fermil topped scoring for Manila Cargo with 13 while Ilocto had 11 and Mandy Astronomo 10 points.

G. Warriors 66, Desert Tigers 57
After running loose on his way to a prolific scoring spree in their previous games, Dirk Basco barely managed to score in double digits owing to the tough marking on him by the G. Warriors (formerly Royale Hayat Hospital Warriors). Basco shot just 16 points, the same output as teammate Lou Jay Uy in the nurses’ loss.
Gerry Geronimo, Rudini Dela Cruz, Jason Santillan and Patrick Eustaquio unloaded 16, 15, 12 and 10 pts in the Warriors’ win.
