Distribution network problems to end within decade – MEW Overworked generation may explode

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 11: The Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity Distribution Networks at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Saleh Al-Muslim disclosed that there are 10,000 overworked generators that may explode at anytime, as they have been in existence for about a quarter of a century.
Al-Muslim pointed out that it will take ten years to solve all the problems of the network that makes it 15 percent every year, in addition to updating the programs. He added the ministry has submitted 96 complaints to the concerned departments about thefts that occurred in the electricity network during 2010.
At a press conference, held Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters, he said that replacing 10,000 generators is an exercise that faces logistic problems. He asserted there is a program to replace the generators that are likely to explode and this program will end by 2020.

He pointed out that during 2009, 400 generators were replaced, while in 2010, 1,000 generators throughout the different governorates were replaced for fear they would explode. He added that generators in hospitals that were likely to explode were replaced, as well as in the Capital governorate, except for Sabah Health Area.

He continued the program is on going and the current year will witness the end of the replacement process of all over-used generators that are found in sensitive areas with large population.
