‘Grilling’ lawmakers to hold a seminar on 8th of every month Any interpellation on the same issue will be dead on arrival: Al-Omair
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: In the face of the government surmounting the non-cooperation motion, and trust being restored in it, a member of “Accept the Constitution” group of lawmakers is coordinating with electoral and social groups and political blocs to hold a seminar on the 8th day of each month to show a documentary on the unarmed citizens and lawmakers who were attacked during a seminar at the diwaniya of MP Jamaan Al-Harbash Dec 8, 2010, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable sources.
Sources added the bloc will hold an extensive meeting by Monday to share views on the current political situation in the country.
Meanwhile, the Salafist Bloc affirmed that its members have accepted results of the grilling request, and urged the other political blocs to cooperate and focus on implementation of the country’s development plan, reports Alam Al-Yawm daily.
In a statement, the bloc condemned pressure the government mounted on some lawmakers recently, “in an attempt to blackmail them politically” and called on all parties to open the channel for communication to cooperate positively in the nation’s interest. He prayed God Almighty protects Kuwait and its stability, in order that justice and equality prevails among the people.
Constitution
The bloc noted politics had been practiced in accordance with the Constitution and Sharia, wherein stances have been adopted based on the individual’s conviction, and with respect.
However, the bloc seriously condemned the political blackmail of MPs, which it described as an insult to their dignity.
Meanwhile, MPs Dr Ali Al-Omair and Mohammad Barrak attributed their opposition to the non-cooperation bid against the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Muhammad to three reasons, citing obedience to the Amir and respect to his position. They also believe the Prime Minister is only responsible for the overall national policy and decisions of the Council of Ministers, based on national interests, reports Al-Watan Arab daily.
In an interview with Al-Watan TV, the two lawmakers stressed there was no evidence proving the Prime Minister had ordered the dispersal of seminars, during the interpellation. They said the grilling MPs held him responsible for the act, based on his position as head of the executive authority.
They pointed out that the Prime Minister can not be held responsible for specialized portfolios such as the Interior Ministry and its supervision of Special Forces. They said “Although the Al-Harbash diwaniya incident was not devoid of transgressions against the security forces and the personality of the Amir, the acts of attack on citizens and lawmakers are condemned”.
Reacting to news that a parliamentary proposal will be presented against the Interior Minister, the lawmakers said their stances would be based on principles.
However Al-Omair said “any interpellation on the same issue will be dead upon arrival, since grilling of the Prime Minister has ended all investigations into the matter.”
He stressed that confidence in the Prime Minister has been renewed and we should carry out our duties.
Meeting
There are reports about the Constitutional Bloc planning a meeting next week to discuss the possibility of presenting a grilling proposal against Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khalid, reports Al-Shahid daily.
Sources were quoted as saying the political terrain is not likely to observe peace as earlier anticipated. They disclosed that MPs Hassan Al-Jowhar and Dulaihi Al-Hajri are preparing to grill Minister of Commerce and Industry Ahmad Al-Haroun on violations at the Chamber of Commerce, and the encroachment on state property in Shuwaikh Industrial Area.
However, sources stressed that targeting the Chamber of Commerce at this time would put the Constitutional Bloc in a deep political mess, after it wasn’t able to fulfill its promise to resign, after the plot to remove the Prime Minister failed.
