Draft law being sought to protect jobs of Kuwaitis ‘Offer financial support to those terminated’
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: The legislative and executive authorities should work on a draft law which offers employment protection to Kuwaitis “to stop the oppressive trend of dismissing efficient national workers from the private sector,” a reliable source at Manpower and Government Restructuring Pro-gram (MGRP) told Al-Qabas daily.
The draft law which has been prepared by a special committee comprising of members of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Public Authority for Social Security (PASS) and MGRP calls for offering financial support to all those who were sacked unjustly from the private sector, added the source.
The source said there are regulations banning the firing of Kuwaitis from private companies and added that the draft law states that sacked employees be given social allowances for six months from the date of their discharge.
“The decision to fire any employee will be tackled by a committee with representatives from CSC, MGRP, PASS, Finance and Social Affairs and Labor ministries,” he noted.
We are insisting on this draft law now to attract national personnel to the private sector, he said, adding a large number of Kuwaitis were laid off by private companies in 2009 due to the global economic crisis.
He further mentioned that the development plan necessitates employing a minimum of 15,000 Kuwaitis in the private sector annually.
