Ministry restarts labor transactions ‘Labor’ to cancel national work force percentage

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 4: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Mansour Al-Mansour was recently quoted as saying the labor sector of the ministry will now accept applications from citizens and expatriates for all sorts of labor transactions, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The daily quoting Al-Mansour said all work, except the renewal and cancellation of work permits, was halted due to annual inventory. He added the work has resumed in all governorates of Kuwait.
Al-Mansour added the application of the automated system has greatly helped the Ministry to minimize the workload and what was earlier done in two weeks could now be efficiently accomplished in just five days.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is set to cancel the required percentage of national work force in the private sector, based on occupation, reports Al-Shahid daily.

Sources were quoted as saying the committee in charge of fixing the required percentage of national workforce normally reviews the file after every three years, in line with the law and percentage schedule.
He stressed the concerned committee at the Government and Manpower Restructuring Program (GMRP) have held a series of meetings with the Labor Department in the ministry before arriving at the need to cancel the percentage of work force, based on occupation, whereas the percentage will be founded on types of activities only.

He explained one of the two relevant sectors in the Labor Department deals with the percentage in line with occupation, and the other one considers the types of activities.
He noted some companies have been cheating on the percentage issue, such that the real occupations are replaced, in the course of which they employ workers to avoid violation of that condition. For instance, they register some workers as secretaries, but they actually work as managers.
He added the required occupation may not be available locally in most cases, so companies will go out of their way to cheat in that aspect.
