‘Grilling is not our goal but to save nation from govt’s failure’ Pro-govt MPs are hypocrites: MP Hayef
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 2: “The government must step down because our goal is not the grilling but to rescue the country from this government’s failure,” MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei declared this late Sunday evening.
“And we are assured we will gather the required number of MPs to vote on the non-cooperation motion against Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed by January 5, since we already have 23 MPs supporting us”, he added. The opposition needs a total of 25 votes to pass the no-confidence motion.
He stressed the opposition will not stop at grilling and will continue to fight for the people and their dignity, and to protect the Constitution from pro-government MPs.
Al-Tabtabaei made these remarks at a seminar themed “We Deserve Our Dignity” held at the diwaniya of former MP Mohammed Al-Halifa in Jahra.
He attributed the current problem to the kind of members represented in the parliament, some of whom he described as MPs with personal interests at heart, and other MPs with principles. He believes the government has not achieved anything other than buying the corrupt media, bribery and acquiring batons to beat citizens, “And so this government must go”, he reiterated.
On his part, MP Mohammed Hayef said those supporting Sheikh Nasser have betrayed the Amir. He went on to describe the pro-government MPs as hypocrites for supporting this Prime Minister who is dragging the country into crisis and destruction.
MP Hayef said certain MPs and ministers supporting the government have even confided to him (Hayef) that this Prime Minister has failed and does not deserve to manage this country. And so, the presence of this government would further create more unrest and crises in the country.
Meanwhile, former MP Mohammed Al-Khalifa urged the opposition government to raise their heads with pride inside the parliament and not back down because they are on the right course. He also called on all MPs to check their personal accounts and know who amongst them has sold Kuwait for money.
He noted the pro-government MPs in the previous government never issued even one statement, but the pro-government MPs of the current government are so aggressive in defending the government just because of money. “Even if the number remains 22, the government must figure out the message which tells the people no long need the current government” he added.
MP Musallam Al-Barrak is certain that on January 5, Kuwaitis would unseat the government of Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed which had only pursued the corrupt channels for support.
He urged MP Dr Hassan Jowhar to stand with the truth and join the 22 MPs who would vote in favor of the non-cooperation motion. “I urge MPs Mohammed Al-Huwailah and Khalid Al-Adwa who today announced their rejection to the motion not to cover themselves with the Constitution by deviating from the right course.
MP Jaman Al-Harbash pointed out that the number of MPs who support the non-cooperation motion clearly shows Kuwaitis want the government to step down.
Former MP Fahad Al-Khanna said, “We are caught between a state of law and a state of force”, saying Kuwaitis have been forcefully dragged to the ground because dragging Dr Obaid Al-Wasmi alone to the ground is like dragging all Kuwaitis there.
He called on Kuwaitis not to respect MPs who have sold their conscience, and that June 5 will not be the end of the story because more grilling requests will follow suit until Sheikh Nasser and the Minister of Interior are gone.
Also, in attendance were MPs, Dr Jaman Al-Harbash, Khalid Al-Tahous and Ali Al-Daqbasi. Former MPs Fahad Al-Khanna, as well as and political activists Ahmed Al-Shuraian Fuhaid Al-Hailam. There was a heavy security presence.
