500 patients need kidney transplant: expert MoH sets up organ supply unit
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 1: Secretary of the Board of Directors of Kuwait Society for Organ Implants Dr Hani Haidar confirmed the number of patients that require organ transplant have increased, especially kidney failure patients, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
He noted about 500 patients need kidney transplant, and pointed out that more than 1,500 kidney transplant operations have been done since 1982.
In an interview with the daily, he noted the Ministry of Health has issued a decision to establish a unit to provide organs, particularly from patients who are clinically dead. He stressed on the need to educate the society on the benefit of organ donation.
