Bader, Chandra edge their way to IBAK finals Jabbar, Faheem meet Mathew, Pushkar in semis

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 27: Bader and Chandra showed how good they can be when they overcame tough opponents to reach the finals of the Indian Badminton Association – Kuwait’s (IBAK) last tournament of 2010 in Sabah Al Salem area Friday. They now await the winners of the Jabbar and Faheem game against Mathew and Pushkar to learn who they will be taking on for the crown. This event has been made possible by the IBAK Organizing Committee who are committed to delivering quality matches for all the members and non-members. Blue Tier, Red Tier Pool, Green Tier and Yellow Tier are the four categories among which all the players have been divided. The matches of all the classes are being fought for a running score of 21 points. In case of a tie there is a slide to 2 points to win the set or the match.

Blue Tier
In the Blue Tier, Bader and Chandra made their path to the championship finals when they fought for every point to edge Roman and Ravi in the semi finals 21-16, 21-23, 21-17 while the tandem of Jabbar and Faheem were waiting to compete against Mathew and Pushkar to decide the other pair to play in the finals.
Bader and Chandra were involved in really tough game when they took on Roman and Ravi who took 16 points off them in the first set which was much closer then the score indicates.
Realizing that they could be on their way home if they didn’t force a deciding 3rd set, Roman and Ravi came fighting back in the second set.There were long rallies and excellent shots from both the sides as the game went into a tie breaker.Roman and Ravi, however, held on to their nerves to take the set and level the match leaving the 3rd set to decide the outcome of the game.

After having allowed their opponents to get into the match in the 2nd set, Bader and Chandra fought hard in the third set and made sure that they reached the finals of the championship by giving away only 17 points in the deciding set.Roman and Ravi fought hard but it was simply not their day as Bader and Chandra refured to wilt under the pressure.
In the earlier matches , Mathew and Pushkar outlasted Dr. Mani and Noor in a seesaw battle 21-16, 15-21, 21-16, while Jabbar and Faheem edged Bader and Chandra 21-19, 18-21, 21-19, Roman and Ravi outlasted Dr. Mani and Noor 18-21, 21-19, 21-11 and Bader and Chandra overcame Mathew and Pushkar 21-17, 23-21.

Red Tier
In the Red Tier, Suresh C and Biju Chacko won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan, while Sunil and Jyothish tamed Dhanya and Jijo George 21-16, 21-17, Tom and Giri won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan, and Suresh and Biju Chacko won by default against Unnikrishnan and Sajith.
In the other matches, Subramanyam P and Sunil Kumar hammered M Oomen and Sarosh Daruwala 21-11, 21-17, Dhanya and Jijo George thumped Lekha and Manjunath in back to back sets 21-13, 21-13, Manoj and Krishnakumar won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan,and Arun Rajagopalan and Mohan outlasted Subramanyam P and Sunil Kumar 19-21, 21-18, 21-12.

Meanwhile, Lekha and Manjunath won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan, Manoj and Krishnakumar tamed Unnikrishnan and Sajith 21-13, 21-14, Lekha and Manjunath were made to sweat before they could edge Tom and Giri 21-18, 17-21, 22-20, Subramanyam P and Sunil Kumar won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan and the tandem Sanal and Binal outlasted Manoj and Krishnakumar 21-11, 18-21, 21-15.
The other matches saw Sunil and Jyothish thrash Suresh C and Biju Chacko 21-9, 21-9, while Arun Rajagopalan and Mohan won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan, Sanal and Binal tamed Subramanyam P and Sunil Kumar 21-15, 21-17, Dhanya and Jijo George thumped M Oomen and Sarosh Daruwala 21-17, 21-18, Manoj Krishnakumar overwhelmed Sunil and Jyothish 21-10, 21-11, Arun Rajagopalan and Mohan overpowered Lekha and Manjunath 21-10, 21-7, Tom and Giri won by default against Unnikrishnan and Sajith, Suresh and Biju Chacko overcame Lekha and Manjunath 21-13, 23-21, Sunil and Jyothish won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan, Subramanyam P and Sunil Kumar won by default against Unnikrishnan and Sajith, Suresh C and Biju Chacko overwhelmed M Oomen and Sarosh Daruwala 21-19, 21-17, and Dhanya with Jijo George outlasted Sanal and Binal 21-17, 13-21, 21-12.

In the other games, Arun Rajagopalan and Mohan brushed aside Manoj and Krishnakumar 21-19, 21-14, while Suresh C and Biju Chacko pressed on the accelerator to edge Tom and Giri in the last 2 sets 18-21, 21-5, 21-13, M. Oomen and Sarosh Daruwala won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan, Manoj and Krishnakumar wasted no effort to beat Lekha and Manjunath 21-4, 21-7, Subramanyam P and Sunil Kumar edged Sunil and Jyothish in 3 extended sets 13-21, 23-21, 21-13, Tom and Giri won by default against Arun Rajagopalan and Mohan, Sanal and Binal won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan and the tandem of Sunil and Jyothish overcame M Oomen and Sarosh Daruwala 21-13, 22-20.
In the last two games of the category, Unnikrishnan and Sajith tamed Arun Rajagopalan and Mohan 21-13, 21-18 and the pair of Dhanya and Jijo George won by default against Sudhakar and Unnikrishnan.
Green Tier
In the Green Tier, Salim and Nouf thumped Nanda and Baburaj 21-9, 21-14, before they brushed aside Sai Balagopal and Nithin 21-17, 21-11, and in their last game won by default against Srinivas and Kiran
Meanwhile, Santhosh and Ronnie outlasted Nanda and Baburaj 24-25, 21-18, 21-10, before they hammered Salim and Nouf 21-15, 21-18, and won by default twice – first against Siva and Phanny Krishna and then against Srinivas and Kiran.

Nanda and Baburaj edged Sai Balagopal and Nithin 21-23, 21-13, 21-18, while they won by default twice – first against Srinivas and Kiran and then Anirudh and Anurag
In the other matches, Thomas Moolayil and Smitha outlasted Salim and Nouf 19-21, 21-8, 21-17, but they were made to sweat before they could edge Santhosh and Ronnie 21-18, 16-21, 25-24.They also won by default twice – first against Anirudh and then Anurag, Siva and Phanny Krishna.
Anand and Dr. Phalani overcame Prasad and Faiz Foizen 23-21, 21-17,before they thumped Sai Balagopal and Nithin 21-8, 21-8 and later crushed Kiran and Srinivas 21-16, 21-7.They also won by default twice – first against Siva and Phanny Krishna and then Anirudh and Anurag.
Prasad and Faiz Fouzen outlasted Thomas Moolayil and Smitha 21-18, 14-21, 21-17, before they edged Sai Balagopal and Nithin 21-15, 11-21, 21-6,and then hammered Kiran and Srinivas 21-7, 21-12.They also won by default against Anirudh and Anurag.
Sai Balagopal and Nithin won by default three times – first against Thomas Moolayil, then Smitha and Anirudh and in the last match against Anurag, Siva and Phanny Krishna.
Kiran and Shrinivas won by default twice – first against Anirudh and Anurag and then Siva and Phanny Krishna.

Yellow Tier
In the Yellow Tier, Vineeth and Darvin thumped Clara and Chloe 21-15, 21-18, before they thrashed Ravindran and Rishab 21-10, 21-3, crushed Sunitha and Nikhi 21-7, 21-6, and in their last game overwhelmed Sayooj and Ashwin 21-13, 21-14.
Vineeth and Darvin were hardly tested in any of their matches as they were simply too good for their opponents. They played like professionals as they cruised to victory in all their matches. In fact, they their foot of the accelerator several times to let their opponents get some points.
Neha and Sathish outlasted Sai and Johan 20-22, 21-15, 21-17, overcame Clara and Chloe 21-18, 23-21, hammered Ravindran and Rishab 21-7, 21-7, and then thumped Persis and Peraline 21-4, 21-2 to round off an excellent day’s play.
Sayooj and Ashwin found the going to their liking as they thrashed Ravindran and Rishab 21-13, 21-4, before overwhelming Clara and Chloe 21-16, 21-14, and then overcoming Sunitha and Nikhil 22-20, 21-16.
Sai and Johan overwhelmed Clara and Chloe 21-17, 21-11 while they had a very easy game when they thrashed Persis and Peraline 21-3, 21-3, before brushing aside Ravindran and Rishab 21-8, 21-12.
Sunitha and Nikhil did not go home empty handed when they tamed Persis and Peraline 21-2, 21-7.
