Ministry asks bank to reveal identity of the account holder ‘Take legal action against channel over illegal charity drive’
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 25: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has asked Interior, Information and Communications ministries to take necessary action against a satellite channel which illegally organized a charity donation campaign in Kuwait, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Reliable sources said a number of Kuwaitis received text messages on their cell phones, urging them to donate for a certain person having a specific bank account. The Social Affairs ministry asked the above-mentioned ministries to take legal action against the channel and has asked the bank to reveal the identity of the bank account holder.
According to sources, the issue came into focus after a parliamentary query was addressed to Minister Mohammad Al-Afasi, asking what legal action was taken against the channel for violating the law, particularly since other channels which committed a similar blunder earlier were not spared.
The ministry also announced that it shut down 107 Internet cafes within the past three years for violating rules and regulations.
Sources said the ministry, in cooperation with Interior Ministry, closed billiards halls in which women work at night, because the halls were not used for the purpose they were granted license.
