MPW still supplying water to firm in debts KD 4.154 m unpaid

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 19:  The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) still supplies treated water to an agricultural company despite its failure to pay accumulated debts amounting to KD 4.154 million, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting sources.
Accusing the company of taking advantage of the absence of a law on the collection of unpaid debts, sources revealed the comptrollers asked the ministry to collect the payment from the company in fiscal 2008/2009 according to the specified price but nothing has been done until now.
Sources said the ministry has been lenient towards the collection of payments for the supply of treated water to contracting companies.  Sources disclosed the ministry has yet to collect a total of KD 87,357 from these companies and some parties have stressed the need to fine those that fail to pay their dues on time.
In the meantime, officials at Subiya Station purportedly dumped 100 million imperial gallons (476 million liters) of treated water into the sea after their failure to follow the instruction of the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) to temporarily suspend the operation of units two, four, five and seven while the repair works on a pipeline outside the station are ongoing.  Sources clarified the station director, Moheie Al-Deain, received the directive from the ministry on the suspension of operations in the aforementioned units but the concerned officials have failed to implement the instruction, resulting in the wastage of millions of gallons of water and remarkable decline in the strategic water reserve of the country.
